Just that really. And if you've acheived a flat, toned stomach or just lost the flab on it (in my case) what it is you found to be most effective?

I do a dance class twice a week, swimming in the morning if Dh is off and can have Dd.
Does running round after a very active toddler count? grin If so, lots of that.

Have lost some of the flab, still got a bit to go till I'm back to my supermodel figure (haha jokes!).

SevTSnape Tue 09-Jun-15 15:30:17

I have just started swimming around 3 times a week for about 20 minutes at a time (used to be 15, so working up). Before that I did 15 minutes 2-3 times a week on cross trainer. However, I found out swimming burns twice the calories, and I enjoy it more. Now just waiting for the fat to walk away smile

awombwithaview Tue 09-Jun-15 15:33:09

Swimming does sound good...only thing being I'm a truly shit swimmer grin

I may pay for lessons to be honest.

CMOTDibbler Tue 09-Jun-15 15:34:04

6 days a week - cycle 2 or 3, swim 2 or 3, run 4 - obv some days I do 2 things, sometimes all 3 at the weekend smile. I cycle 20-30 miles at a time, run 5-10km a time, and swim 2-3km a session.

I think swimming hard has had the most effect on my upper body, cycling hard on my bum.

I chase toddlers too and have started using weights again. I only have a couple of pounds to shift as two under two in the pram & a hilly area zapped my weight off, but I need to tone up and do something out my mid section as I'm avoided quite a few tips right now on the basis they're too tight around my tummy.

viva100 Tue 09-Jun-15 15:35:53

Cardio +loads of sit-ups.
I do Zumba/aerobics/other cardio fitness classes(45min-1hr) 3 times a week to maintain weight, 5 times (and add some running) to lose it. But I don't diet, never could, I just make sure I eat lots of veggies and protein and no sweets.

CoolAs10Fonzies Tue 09-Jun-15 15:36:07

I have just started netball.
Monday evenings 20.30pm - 21.30pm. The buzz afterwards is amazing!
Hadn't played in over 15 years

Also, I go for a 30 min brisk walk each (or every other evening)

I want to add swimming to my list, but not yet got round to it yet.

I am 5ft 9, size 12 and I have a bit of flabiness going on.

Muffin Top, Bingo Wings, Back name it, I have it smile

I will update in time whether this flabfest reduces or not.

Bloody iPad.

Avoiding quite a few tops in my wardrobe.

awombwithaview Tue 09-Jun-15 15:38:02

And if you have young kids who don't nap where do you fit it in?

Joolsy Tue 09-Jun-15 15:39:43

I do a DVD at home for 3 x 30 mins a week, plus cardio tennis (which is a killer!) once a week. I also try to walk for a couple of miles once or twice a week. With the home DVDs I try to incorporate some stomach exercises for 10 mins or so as I don't see how you'd lose stomach fat otherwise. Not saying that my stomach is flat mind, I like my food too much!

turningvioletviolet Tue 09-Jun-15 15:43:49

I run 6x a week. I work 3 days a week and on those days get up at 4.45 (ouch) to get a run in before I leave for work at 6.30. The other days I drop youngest dc at school and go straight for a run. I'm slim (size 10) but not particularly toned. And I eat a lot of sweets.

awombwithaview Tue 09-Jun-15 15:46:59

violet I admire you hugely!

jools I was getting along well with a davina DVD a couple of years ago pre-kids but I can't find the damn thing anywhere!

bluejeanswhiteshirt Tue 09-Jun-15 15:57:27

I go for a brisk, uphill walk for 1 hour every morning after DD had her 1st bottle. I do 20-30 minutes a day hula hooping (great for toning stomach) while DD watches in amazement. And do squats, lunges whenever I can fit them in.

Vivacia Tue 09-Jun-15 15:58:45

I limit cardio to a 45 minute spin class once a week. I lift heavy weights three times a week. I enjoy two yoga classes a week. Of course, this is an ideal week which I don't often achieve.

I think a flat stomach is made in the kitchen though. I don't currently have abs, but after a recent cut I have the flat, toned look. Aiming to keep this all week until DD's birthday blow-out on Saturday smile

keeptothewhiteline Tue 09-Jun-15 16:01:23

I do 3 body pump and 3 body balance a week.

manicinsomniac Tue 09-Jun-15 16:02:18

I dance - jazz, tap, ballet and commercial/street classes. Anywhere from 3-8 hours a week depending on the children and work. In some of those classes I'm a participant and in others I'm teaching so I do find I do a lot less in the classes I'm teaching because the level is low.

I have a flat stomach but then I'm really tiny in general, that's not from the exercise. Having said that, I do think dance is a great form of exercise for an all over tones body.

I don't do anything else - the normal walking from A to B and running about after kids but I don't count that.

DarkHeart Tue 09-Jun-15 16:04:51

In the past I have done a lot of cardio but recently started doing 3x heavy weights a week plus yoga and the odd run, I have lost around 20kg in two years and am on the push to lose the last 7kg. Weights and yoga really help with toning

dollywobbles Tue 09-Jun-15 16:05:08

I do Zumba once a week, lake swimming (so very cold water and sometimes a slight current if windy) two or three times a week, 10k run once a week and maybe two 5ks and 2 x 10k bike rides.
I do most of it after DS is in bed, or before he gets up (I work every day).
I've lost 5 stone in the last year and surprise myself constantly at how much I enjoy this physical activity lark!

SevTSnape Tue 09-Jun-15 16:06:52

awomb I didn't learn to swim until I was 18, and I just suck generally at it. I can't swim in a straight line, my arms do a completely different stroke to my legs, but as long as I'm getting the movements in, does it really matter? I am getting stronger at swimming now as well, which is great.

TooMuchCheesecake Tue 09-Jun-15 16:08:41

I do an hours Pilates class once a week, and 45 minute spin classes 2-3 times a week (evening classes once the DC are in bed and DH is home from work). I also walk a lot as I don't drive and have school runs etc to do.

I am slim (size 10) but not toned, which is probably due to the fact that I can't diet and eat far too much chocolate blush

Lottapianos Tue 09-Jun-15 16:09:02

Walk 2-3 miles a day as part of commuting
Run 2-3 miles a day, between 3 and 5 miles each time
Do some basic Pilates at home a couple if times a week

The biggest things that got rid of my gut:
- cut way back on sugar, increase water and veggies
- a DVD called 10Minute Solutions Blast Off Belly Fat

Lottapianos Tue 09-Jun-15 16:09:52

Sorry - run 2-3 times a week!

GymBum Tue 09-Jun-15 16:20:46

I exercise 5/6 times a week and currently I am generally doing the following

- spinning followed by yoga usually
- weight training followed by some form of abs workout (tabata core based normally)
- spinning followed by body pump
- weight training (usually split muscle groups)

I also try and vary things regularly because your body gets used to what you are doing. I am not a body builder more toned than ripped IFSWIM.

susanstryingterm Tue 09-Jun-15 16:26:26

I've started swimming twice a week for about half an hour, and walking three times a week, also for about half an hour.
I've also started doing stomach crunches. My stomach muscles are quite weak from a hysterectomy a couple of years ago, so I'm working really hard to try and tone in that area.
