AIBU?

This morning bony baby competition should be outlawed

Just ironing before heading off to work and have seen a beautiful baby competition on this morning tv show
Apparently thousands of presumably ugly babies applied to win this competition and these have been edited out whittled down to three acceptably attractive finalists.
Does anyone else think this is horrific? Or am I pc gone mad?
The finalists are all female babies chosen for their personalities!!!?
In a society where women especially are judged by their looks I find this truly terrible.
They were even posed with model mothers so their own mothers obviously didn't cut the mustard in the looks dept.
Look forward to hearing anyone else's opinion even ifs to tell me to lighten up

I dislike baby competitions anyway.

I would never enter one, DD would obviously win, it wouldn't be fair on the others Wink

I read your title as boney baby competition - which would be worse.

I saw that too and was a bit Shock it's objectifying children! All children are beautiful. I wonder what their selection criteria were.

Arf! at the thread title Grin

I don't think it's horrific because I tend to save that words for actual horrific things like famine, death, war etc.

But I cringe at all 'beauty' competitions. Especially baby ones because it's not like they get any say in this crap.

Both of my son's looked like squashed trolls as babies

They wouldn't of made the cut

These competitions have had their day, same with the terrible local newspaper versions. Naff as fuck.

The selection criteria was outlined yesterday - it was about performance at the photo shoot, rather than looks, although you can't deny that the cuteness (or not) of the final photo did play a part.

Phil was shocked that no male babies got through, too, and did ask a few times if they were really going for all girls.

It was being heavily debated at work...I used to love entering my little sister in these on holiday, when she was a baby. I don't think it ever did her any harm.

The real mums were on yesterday, too. Perhaps they couldn't take lots of time off or had other commitments.

Give it a freaking rest. They've been going on for years and I don't think they do any harm. The winners are basically picked at random.

All children are beautiful

No they're not Grin

Well not outwardly anyway. Same as all adults aren't beautiful because it's all a matter of personal taste.

Predictive text !
But maybe with all the stuff about obese children a bony baby comp might not be a bad thing?

It's a bit naff but I tend to think very few things should be "outlawed", and naffness isn't one of the reasons for making things illegal

Yabu and seriously overthinking.

My first looked like a bulldog. Beautiful in his own way n'all. Second was angelic. Both boys though, so no chance in a beauty pageant without ruffles, lace and frills to smother them in.

Yanbu, btw

I'm pretty sure the real mums were on with the babies this morning too. They certainly looked the same as the ones yesterday.

Amazed there's still 'bonny baby' competitions. It's a bit 1950s isnt' it?

Makes me think of the American style beauty pageants for little kids. All fake tan and wigs on 6 year olds. Yuk.

It's just been shown again and it definitely is the babies' mums with them, not models.

My first two were so beautiful that I was a bit surprised when my third looked like a potato!
A very Smiley potato, but still...
He's lovely now of course.

I was all ready to go up in flames re a Bony Baby comp Grin

Baby competitions not for me (mine were both a bit Winston Churchill-esque anyway) but I don't think that they're in the same league as the Pageants starring fake tanned 4yo's. The babies probably don't care whether they win or not. No realy harm imo
