We have always had a very strained relationship. MIL and SIL are cold narcissistic women who have caused stress to DH and I since we met. I have always made an effort though to be nice to them and smooth the relationship along. Despite this they have never shown any interest in our dc, our lives etc and I have always felt judged by them. I had a light bulb moment a couple of weeks ago when they did something so hurtful I cannot get over it. MIL has now decided to visit us despite not bothering for 2 years previously. I hate her so much I am not sure how I can bare her presence. She makes no attempt at conversation except to tell us how hard her life is and generally hovers over me. In the past I have made so much effort to keep the conversation going etc but cannot do this any more. I need some ideas on come backs and general coping mechanisms for the weekend please!

Go out for the day?

"Yes, you've said so before, but dwelling on your problems does nothing to solve them" and then change the subject to something bland.

I've got awful sil and mil, they up each others arses and smother sil dd with everyrhing leave my dc out in cold in comparison but I've not visitedfor yearly a year now as i won't been drawn into it, they not welcome at mine not that they've asked but if did I would just go out as dp still visits weekly with dc,
In your situation I would just say if don't likeyour life only you can change it so put up or shut up... Well prob not so blunt lol

Innocently with wide eyes "I think you enjoy your life very much indeed"

Can you say what it was? Because it might be NC time if its REALLY bad.

If its still raw she wouldn't be coming to my house this weekend. What does DH think?
