Moto g. For about £150.
We've all got one here. Mine is the latest model and has 4g.

You cannot go far wrong with 321 pay as you go with Three and a Moto G.

End up spending like £5 a month and still do all the things you normally do.

Someone suggested the Moto G - great phone but the camera leaves a bit to be desired.

YANBU. Phones these days are ridiculously priced.

I got a Sony Xperia Z1 compact from Virgin Mobile PAYG for £180. It was unlocked and my EE contract sim went straight in, no hassle. Brilliant phone for the money.

I use mine with 321, too! I don't have the 4g, as there's no coverage where I live - 3g is patchy enough - but I do have the dual SIM one which means I can chop and change when I'm in an area with different crap reception!

Forgot to say that the camera is 20 MP and excellent. I don't know if it is 4g, but I'm not interested in stuff like that, especially as I am on a very cheap old t-mobile contract that I will probably never give up

Asus Zenfone 2. Comes in two versions, the version with 2GB of ram is about £190 from clove.co.uk. Probably the best phone you can get at that price, its more powerful than the S6 and has a superior camera. You just aren't paying for the Samsung name.

Google the best phones of 2013 and get onto ebay. I did that 6 months ago and have a rather lovely lg g2

I got a Samsung galaxy core prime after losing my Samsung galaxy S6. Bought it from Tesco for 90 pound. It is brilliant, it's 4g ready, the camera is brilliant and has flash. I love it, I would actually have considere this phone over an S6 if I had known how good it is!

Also with it being a Tesco phone I used my points so only paid 50 pound in the end!

DH had a Nokia 735 which we got through a MN test. It's a genuinely great phone and costs less than 200 quid (170 if you can swing a student discount).

But because it's Microsoft the choice of apps is rather restricted. DH is fine with that because it's his first smartphone, but if you're used to Apple / Android then you might find that a significant downside.

I have a 1Plus1 phone. I think it was just over £200 and it is BRILLIANT. Much higher spec than anything else remotely close to that price. If you google reviews of it, you can see the specs--I was swayed when I saw the glowing reviews on all the tech websites. The only thing is that the 4G only works on certain bands, so I think you have to be with a certain carrier (maybe Three?). I have giffgaff and the 4G doesn't work with their band. Not a big deal to me as I don't want to pay for a 4G plan anyway.

Moto Gs are fantastic value. Camera is OK (not great). I am starting to read good things about the huawei phones, might try one for my daughter who has had a smashed screen on her moto g for about a year (the downside of cheap phones is that it really isn't worth spending money to repair them).

I got rid of my Nokia for that reason xbox. And the apps that there were were very limited eg hard to follow a conversation on twitter, a rather basic MSDOS look and feel to some apps like the met Office app.
