AIBU?

to be annoyed about the state my toilet was left in...

I spent quite a while cleaning the bathroom yesterday morning, which made me even more annoyed, although I always keep the toilet clean...
A friend came round for a few hours and when her DP came to pick her up he went to use the bathroom and was there quite a while. When I went up there 10 or so minutes later I was hit by the most godawful stench, although to be fair to him we haven't any air freshened and he had opened the window, but oh my god the state of the toilet bowl! Skidder central. It was absolutely rank.
Surely it's common curtesy to flush a couple more times and pour some bleach down to try and get rid of the evidence if you've had a massive skiddy shit at someone else's house (and in fact your own house!) We have one of those toilet duck brushes with disposable heads which is in the cupboard so he couldn't have known it was there but the bleach is right next to the bloody loo!

I know these are a mumsnet no no but that is precisely the point of a toilet brush kept by the loo. He was probably mortified...

If they had opened the window, and there was no toilet brush available then they've done all they can!
I didn't know bleach would magically dissolve skidders, so would never have put any in the bowl..

Why are lo brushes considered a sin on here? I have always wondered!

Op.

Bung some bleach down it and stop whinging

I wouldn't use bleach but would have expected him to use toilet roll to get rid of the skid marks

Report
merrymouse · 01/06/2015 06:31

Above the line skid marks can be removed easily with loo roll.

Sausages, I think a lot of people think they're unhygienic. I have always wondered how people without them clean the loo, though. Do they just squirt bleach down and that's it? I much prefer to scrub with bleach and a loo brush. And it avoids embarrassment for guests, as the OP demonstrates.

Yadnbu, surely he could have held it in till he got home. He comes to pick his DP up and decides to have a shit in your toilet as soon as he gets there. What absolutly brilliant timing.

No on here guest toilet users are supposed to stand over their
Skids pondering as there is no toilet brush. They are then expected to put their hands down someone else's pan brandishing toilet roll.

I've got no sympathy me, toilet brushes are pennies.

They do black ones in ikea

I can understand why people wouldn't want to put their hands in the water (although I suspect it is actually relatively clean).

However if you can wipe your bottom with loo roll you can also wipe the the sides of the loo. Underwater skid marks are likely to be minimal after a couple of flushes.

OpalQuartz · 01/06/2015 06:47

Yabu as your toilet brush was in the cupboard and if that's what he would normally use it probably wouldn't occur to him to have to stick his hand in the toilet bowl with loo roll.

dementedpixie · 01/06/2015 06:48

I have a toilet brush but it isn't used for day to day skid marks (I hope). It is for when the toilet is being cleaned and for scrubbing the toilet cleaner round the bowl. Toilet roll is perfectly adequate for wiping the bowl above the water line

"Yadnbu, surely he could have held it in till he got home"

Well clearly he couldn't. What a ridiculous remark!

Just buy a fucking toilet brush, nowt wrong with them. Even if you use don't use it goodness knows why have it there for your guests if they do have some sort of explosion and aren't left embarrassed. I bet your guest was mortified OP.

I agree with gamer I don't see why someone should have to put their hand down someone else's loo with bleach, because toilet brushes are "unhygienic". When they are no more unhygienic than cleaning the loo with your hands (is that how you do it?) I bloody love my loo brush Grin

I don't get what just using bleach would achieve, other than dying the skid marks white?

You need a toilet brush, My DH wouldn't have a clue what to do with a toilet duck if it was in front of him. We have a toilet duck which I use and a cheap Asda basic brush for DH and guests, which gets changed regularly.

Na bleach put on fresh shit will mostly flush away on the next flush.

Has to be fresh though before it welds itself.

Can't believe I'm talking about shit this time of a morning Grin

That is disgusting.
Of course he should have used loo roll to clean up his own shit rather than leaving it for someone else. He is an adult, not a child. Nobody would leave someone else's toilet like that unless they are physically incapable of wiping up their own shit.
Totally disgusting and I'd be mentioning it next time I saw him.

Songlark · 01/06/2015 07:15

Bunbaker How do you know, "clearly he couldn't?" Why is it clear he couldn't just because he did it.What a silly remark...why couldn't he have. He's just arrived at someone's house and he feels the sudden need for a shit. He's not 2 year old. Unless he had diarrhea I'm sure he could have waited till he got home.

What more could he have done with no brush?

All this crap about "without a brush he couldn't do anything!"

Hmm

He could have wadded up some loo roll and scrubbed it off easily.

Report
MrsNextDoor · 01/06/2015 07:20

We never use a brush...gross things that they are. You don a glove, add bleach, wad up loo roll and wash the skiddy off!

Report
WipsGlitter · 01/06/2015 07:21

Only on mumsnet are loo brushes verboten. If the op had a loo brush then all word have been fine.

As for wiping the bowl with loo paper - also disgusting.

As for "mentioning it the next time I saw them" rude and bonkers.
