To eat my lunchtime sandwich by 10:30?

Pathetic. I'm ok (til, say, 12:00) if I am with someone else, but if there is nobody else in my office and I suddenly remember it lurking in my bag, it just has to be eaten straightaway, even if the filling is boringsville, which it usually is eg cheese and cucumber. Why don't I have an iron will when it comes to my packed lunch? By 3pm on premature-lunch-eating days (such as today) I want to eat my own arm.

I did this today, and I think we are both being very silly.

Its school trip syndrome

Can you - take something frozen or that requires heating up so you are one step removed from eating it.

Or - here-s a radical idea - take some fruit and nuts for mid-morning snack to stave it off?

Theycallmemellowjello Tue 26-May-15 17:22:04

I solve this problem by taking 2 sandwiches!

Magmatic80 Tue 26-May-15 17:22:29

YANBU. I think about lunch from around 10am. I have learnt to give my lunch to someone else for safekeeping.

TheRealMaryMillington Tue 26-May-15 17:22:43

God knows what happened to my grammar and punctuation there. Probably due to being starving and unable to concentrate.

YANBU. It's the law. I've also done it before long journeys (eg 7 hour drive). DH and I packed up our car then sat in it (directly opposite our home) and ate every last bite of the lunch we'd packed, then set off on our journey. This was immediately after breakfast of course.

I think we are the instant generation.

ChampagneTastes Tue 26-May-15 17:27:04

Oh I do this! The only way I can stop myself is if I make myself something like a salad instead. Somehow, the need to use cutlery renders the eating of it before lunchtime an intensely squalid thing to do.

YsabellStoHelit Tue 26-May-15 17:28:37

The only solution is more snacks or two sandwiches tbh... That's what I go with!

Figmentofmyimagination Tue 26-May-15 17:29:19

I'm glad I'm not alone. I agree with school trip syndrome. Two sandwiches is definitely not a solution as I can tell straightaway where that would lead.

Fruit or nuts? I have tried fruit before and shamefully, I can resist it ALL DAY. I think the only snack that would work would be a frankly unhealthy one.

Fluffyears Tue 26-May-15 17:35:12

Two sandwiches is fucking genius!

HoneyDragon Tue 26-May-15 17:39:27

If it's when the office is empty can you put it somewhere else so you have to do a I want my lunch early walk of shame? That might put you off. Or amuse colleagues that don't know you well as you ninja creep and commando roll past them.

SanityClause Tue 26-May-15 17:43:29

I do this, too. I eat everything I own by midday.

If I took two sandwiches, I would have eaten them by midday, as well. And if I took three...

But once I've eaten, I'm usually okay. If there's no food available, I don't feel hungry.

Theycallmemellowjello Tue 26-May-15 17:45:34

Haha fluffyears - tbh I am amazed it took me as long as it did to stumble on it. But now I have there's no going back.

JeanSeberg Tue 26-May-15 17:48:48

If I knew the answer to this my arse wouldn't be so big.

MrsNextDoor Tue 26-May-15 17:50:38

Well I do it if I've not eaten a decent breakfast. What are you eating for brekkie OP? Be honest...if it's one banana then of course you're looking for something by 10.30.

ScrambledEggAndToast Tue 26-May-15 18:04:56

I too am a fruit resister hmm I go into work with these big ideas that I'm going to eat two satumas and a banana but it never happens. One satsuma minimum. I am on a week's annual leave and last week's banana is still in my lunch box sorrowfully going browner and browner. It's bin day tomorrow so I'll have to throw it out grin More sandwiches next week Galaxy chocolates

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Tue 26-May-15 18:10:14

My trick is to not eat anything in the morning (very frowned on, I know). I've just eaten my lunchtime sandwich at 4ish...

If I eat in the morning, it just makes me want to eat all day and I don't want that.

YANBU

glitteryflange Tue 26-May-15 18:39:26

YANBU.

Klayden Tue 26-May-15 18:45:56

I am the same. sad

What time do you have breakfast? What do you have for breakfast?

Yellowbird54321 Tue 26-May-15 18:51:36

OOh thought it was just me and my sister who did this smile

Figmentofmyimagination Tue 26-May-15 19:25:59

My breakfast is a faultless triumph - natural yoghurt, muesli and fruit. I do eat breakfast quite early but tbh it's not really about being hungry, so much as just knowing the sandwich is there - almost like it's calling to me from my bag. Fruit etc don't seem to speak to me in the same way.

silverglitterpisser Tue 26-May-15 19:36:07

Have done this more times than I could count. The sandwich just winks at me even when in a locked drawer out of sight! Could not never ever never put them in the communal fridge (too many thefts, sabotages n general mingin-ness) so eating it early is actually a smart move to avoid said sandwich going soggy n inedible n I am therefore reducing food waste! yeah right I'd eat it soggy, sandwiches r always edible to me .

Timeforabiscuit Tue 26-May-15 19:40:33

Yup, been there! I started having my lunch at home (10 minutes walk away) as lunch would be gone by 11!
