Dogs/poo near school

Would it be fair to stop walking my dog to the school honest opinions please.
There's a few of us who walk our children to school, take the dogs along & then go on for a walk. it works out well for us (!) because it's somewhere to meet & gets the walk over before work.
Crucial information: dogs are not allowed on school site & we all have dc old enough to take themselves in so dogs stay at least 50m away
I always pick up/bag any dog poo as do the other mums
It's a busy place, lots of dogs around& the road with the school on is open all the time not just school hours though the only place it leads is the school and park beyond so it's quiet in terms of cars (except at 845 & 315)
So there's a group of mums who shriek loudly about hating dogs/stepping in dog poo etc in front of us/deliberately when we're near, I don't know them & wouldn't challenge them on it as it seems futile saying well it's not MY dogs mess. I feel like a public nuisance & to cut a long story short would it be fair to stop doing this? Thanks

Also to say the dogs are small & we don't come to the school 'in a pack' as we all come from different directions different times etc but we do meet at this point about 50m away

Just ignore the other women. You are doing nothing wrong. It makes sense to walk the dog after dropping your children at school. I do it too and have never met this reaction.

no....don't be silly,just carry on with your life! schools/mums etc are not protected species. just because its a road with a school on it means little. just shake your head at them and carry on!

echt I don't think the OP is saying she bags up any old dog poo. Just her own (as is correct - you don't see smokers castigated for not collecting other's discarded buts). No way of telling anyway whether it's dog, cat or fox poo.

It doesn't sound like you do take the dogs to school if you never get closer than 50m.
I think there is often anti-social behaviour regarding dogs at the school gate (leaving them tied up barking and growling, dog poo, letting them sniff/jump up at people) but it doesn't sound like that is the issue here.

No don't stop - you are perfectly within your rights. I have an issue where the dog doesn't remain in the control of an adult and or dog mess not sorted properly but other than that there is alot of scaremongering by ignorant folk about dogs and leads to silly (and often risky) behaviour on the part of kids. My own daughter was terrified of dogs even though she thought pictures were cute, she would rather have jumped in front of a car than even share the same wide pavement with them. So we decided to get a dog. She is still cautious of other dogs but has bags of confidence with ours now even though she can't yet walk her as she is a bit too boisterous for a child to control. And just to share a proud Mummy moment we went to a country fair where there were Beagles (24 to be precise) and they did a presentation and encouraged children and adults to mingle with the dogs (they were all relatively young under 18mths) and she went in the pen on her own with the other kids and had great fun. Different child to 18mths ago.

We all see lots of dog mess around but no one ever confesses to leaving it so God Knows who does leave it or why.

Actually, I will confess. I never ever thought to pick up my dog's mess when I was a kid, no one taught me to. Dog died 35 yrs ago, so maybe I'm absolved by now.

I tend to think that parents on school run are among the least likely to leave mess, so am fine if OP decides to ignore the hysterics.

We have a lot of dog poo near our school, which is horrible, but I don't for a second think it's the parents who bring their dogs to school as I know them and they are good dog owners

YANBU to take your dog where the hell you like as long as it's not somewhere dogs aren't allowed and you're picking up its poo. The dog poo on the school run is annoying and gross but if it's not yours, you're no more responsible for it than those who don't have a dog.
