AIBU?

to feel a bit defensive of this site?

I'm quite new (although been posting quite a lot! I'm quite enthusiastic about this site).

I've seen posts saying this site is fake, and that there are vipers on here (esp on weekend nights).

But I REALLY like AIBU. I really, really do.

I first looked as a bit of work-skive, but I'm totally hooked. What I really love is that people post questions they want answers to and they GET answers.
And the majority of those are supportive, but also honest.

I REALLY like that people don't necessarily agree with OP, but give their opinions and reasons.

There ARE a few trolls, I've seen those, and they can be nasty.

And some might be fakes, and have to accept that.

And people are also very judgey, but (as they often admit) they don't know all the facts and they go on what they know.

I've been on the wrong side of that when I posted a post about a work situation that a colleague (who was a new friend) informed me about and people came back to say "new friend is shit stirring - you should dump her!" and I was really taken aback when I saw it, because she is lovely and I would be horrified to dump her because she is so nice. But they were going on the information I had given them.

And, basically, what I see on this site is women given honest comment, and mostly done in a supportive way.

AIBU to think that is ACE?

I think this site is TOP!

Are you Parker?

I love Mumsnet too

But just like any other forum there are fake people and vipers, as well as nice people.

I haven't seen the whole site being called fake though?

It can be very funny and thought provoking and educational. But, it can be ugly harsh just for the sake of it. Often some mindless sheep just jumping on the tone of the first one or two posts and running with it. Lots of people enjoying giving some unknown a good kicking just because they can. So no, I don't think it's as great as you think.

I'm a long time time reader and only recently started to reply. (My situation is so complicated it'd probaby out me straight away though tbh I don't care if I am but apparently it's taboo not to be anonymous) but ai u is my favourite place I'm here 3-20 times a day.

Yes, I like it here.

I like the variety of chat when there isn't a bloody election or Rpyal baby being born. I also like that the different viewpoints I have came across have made me stop and reconsider my own views.

Sorry aibu still haven't gotten used to actually replying lol

That's not nice, bambambini. I wouldn't like that either. Has that happened to you?

No, I'm not Parker, Fairenuff. Who is Pareker?

There was a thread about this site being fake, and I've seen some messages which basically say 'good luck... there are vipers on here who will rip you apart' and I have personally seen some messages which are just nasty.

But overwhelmingly they are nice and considered and people thinking about your issue and giving you their thoughts, which is what (I think) this site was designed for.

And no, MN don't pay me! I just like it

The viper part is true. But it's every day/evening. We, vipers, don't take breaks. But the bitten are mostly trolls and abusive husbands.

No not really happened to me in a way that has been upsetting but see it with others. I did start a AIBU where many disagreed and give me a hard time but as I was of course right I didn't let it get to me.

I'm always right too, Bambambini. Shame others don't always notice! Smile

If it's the thread I'm thinking of, it said that some members are fake

Not the whole website.

I have defended MN to folk I know who have slated it without ever reading the site (so they say) and defended it on Netmums because Mn is obviously way more superior!

I've defended MN at times and other times I've absolutely agreed that it can be bonkers...because it can.

But I'm sure that's the case with most websites...or at least the ones that aren't stupidly heavily moderated.

I have to say at this moment in time, the election really hasn't brought out the best in some people.

But it'll calm down and get back to normal soon enough.

It is a great site - a majority of the time.

You will get supportive, funny and helpful posters but then there is a chance that you will attract the martyrs of whatever your discussing, and God forbid you disagree with anything they say. It can get quite, ahem, heated Grin

I now crave to be described as funny, glittertwinkletoes.

Ditto supportive and helpful

Those are now my new goals!

There was a thread about this site being fake

How can the site be fake?

If you are posting on it then it's obviously not fake, it really does exist Confused

I wish I had found mumsnet when I was expecting my first baby! Back then it was babyworld all the way, tho I never went as far as a glittery ticker.

I have had my doubts over the last few days with all the election guff, but skirting around that issue, its still full of frankly quite fucking fabulous women (and a few men) and good advice. me included obvs Hmm

This site was okay up until the last two days and it's a bit of a mess right now.

It's so much more than the AIBU topic but I think some people never venture out of it. Sad
