This freaked me out ( health related )

Felt tired after dinner ( not unusual) went for a lie down on the bed, while talking on the phone I put my hand to my temple and here's a massive vein stuck right up.

Not one on the other side.

Got OH to take blood pressure...127/60

Consulted Dr Google....apparently normal after exercise. An hour lying on bed wasn't exercise.

Not as pronounced today but can still feel it. BP 130/64

Other than feeling tired I feel no different. ( only slept 5 hours)

Anyone else have this happen?

Don't want to waste Dr's time if it's nothing.

Anyone else have this happen I meant to say?

If your doc does telephone consultations, give them a ring.

I don't think this is dangerous from what I have read. Are you stressed? If it is painful that would be an issue.

Do you have headaches, jaw or vision problems at all? Its worth getting in checked by your GP. It is probably nothing but an article in the DM (of all papers) made me think

That blood pressure is completely fine by the way, even after lying on the bed, not sure whether you meant you were worried about that bit of it?

Dowser Thu 07-May-15 15:23:29

No, I was worried about the prominence of this vein.

I don't have any vision problems or jaw problems . It is most unusual.

Its just that prominent arteries in the temples can be symptom but if you have nothing else then its probably not that (which is a good thing).

Are you a bit dehydrated? I get prominent veins when I haven't drunk enough water or have drunk too much wine

ShouldIworryornothelp Thu 07-May-15 16:51:57

If youre over heating the veins come to the surface to cool the blood

MsMcWoodle Thu 07-May-15 17:15:39

Is it painful? Might be cellulitis. Infected vein.

Dowser Thu 07-May-15 19:36:32

No it's not really painful but on the other hand sometimes I'm aware of it....in a bit of a dull throb kind of way.

If it was cellulitis ( I've had that in my leg) the area around is usually red and this isn't.

Just bout to embark on drinking more fruit tea. Showed it to my osteopath tonight. He's stumped by it as well

Soooo ...I have made an appointment with my doctor for Monday. I shall also mention the extreme tiredness I get and see if it's related to the fact that the bottom figure of my blood pressure is quite low ( 60)

It's like the get up and go has got up and gone!

ShouldIworryornothelp Thu 07-May-15 19:44:47

One sided throbbing is usually a migraine.

It might be the tannins in your tea doing it

PlanningMyFuture Thu 07-May-15 21:40:28

Could be an infection. But like all worrying health related posts I always think it is logical to get medical advice rather than MN advice.

Thanks for the hand holding everyone.

That vein has gone to almost normal today but it did prompt me to make an appointment next week with my GP.

I'll see about some blood tests to see why I am so tired and exhausted most of the time. That blood pressure of 60 was a bit scary it's now up to 67 today.

When you're getting on a bit, these things can tip you over the edge somewhat.
It wasn't quite like waking up and discovering I had two heads but it felt like it! Aaaargh!

OH, is a bit like ' I told you , it would be ok!'

Humph! So you're a doctor now? Really?

atomich01 Fri 08-May-15 18:09:12

There's nothing wrong with that blood pressure, I certainly wouldn't be concerned (23 years medical experience) average BP is 120/80 but I've seen perfectly healthy people with BP of 100/60 right up to 150/100!!

FWIW, BP tend to go UP after exercise, so a BP of 127/60 is completely normal after laying down/resting for an hour!

Please don't ever consult Dr Google - remember, a medical qualification is not needed to put up a website, so people can say whatever they like! (Often wrong/misleading). If you must look online, please go to a reputable website.

Thanks atom.

8 hours sleep a night wouldn't go amiss either!
