Pear Shaped by Adam Blain. my 44 year old husband has written a book about his aggressive brain tumour. its frankly hilarious - i know, it shouldnt be. it is very dark humour. you can download it from amazon and it would be wonderful if his writing could reach as many people as possible

A taster here. It is actually very witty.

My dear friend has ovarian cancer. God we've had some 'gallows-humour' moments.

OP how are things now?

Hardboiledegg Sat 21-Mar-15 20:59:32

I've just downloaded it and, much as it sounds like a bizarre thing to say about a book about brain cancer, I'm really looking forward to reading it. Best of luck to you and your family OP.

Thankyou jamnam he's doing well at the moment though the prognosis is terrible

magimedi Sat 21-Mar-15 22:29:03

I'd normally flame you for trying to push something, but in the circumstances...........

I've downloaded the sample from Amazon & am off to bed to read it now.

flowers to you & your DH & your family.

Looks good. You may want to ask a proofreader to give it the once over to tighten it up a bit.

You must be so proud of your DH lu9months! In the face of adversity he chose to create something that will brighten the lives of others. Cannot wait to read it!

Hardboiledegg Sun 22-Mar-15 09:03:30

I've stayed in bed to finish it this morning and enjoyed it very much. Hoping very much for a miracle for you all. I've also sent you a PM.

MrsCornish Sun 22-Mar-15 10:26:50

What a lovely, funny man. I have selflessly stayed in bed till now to finish it, and I'm very glad I did. In the middle of reading it i got distracted by a David Sedaris article. When I returned to the Pear I was still thinking in Sedaris-voice and the transition was seamless - it could have been written by the great man himself. brew

Just finished the book. Refreshing, funny and 'real' as well as poignant. Thanks for sharing your story. It will make a difference to others going through (bastard) cancer and all the stuff it brings, as well as bring in long term funds for you all.
flowers for you all. Amazing super powers by the way! wink

thewigglywig Sun 22-Mar-15 12:46:25

I have read the part on Amazon, 'Diagnosis Day' and yes, brilliantly written and very funny and I am VERY hard to please when it comes to humour

trufflesnout Sun 22-Mar-15 15:28:41

I don't have a kindle (yet) but when it gets here I'll buy the full book smile

Nanny0gg Sun 22-Mar-15 15:42:31

I've just read the preview and ordered the book.

I think your DH is a very good writer indeed.

Wishing him, and you, the very best of luck. flowers

WayfaringStranger Sun 22-Mar-15 17:34:12

lu have you tried any of cancer support forums to advertise?

Floundering Sun 22-Mar-15 17:45:57

Brilliant Lu ...will get the whole thing, as a nurse of the old school Gallows Humour is my downfall at times, so will love reading this!

Best wishes to Sir -take care of you as well as him grin

ImperialBlether Sun 22-Mar-15 17:52:47

Bought it! Hope he doesn't get too hooked on his sales spreadsheets! Good to see he's number 1 in his category - congratulations!

Hope he gets the best possible treatment and wishing him all the very best.

ImperialBlether Sun 22-Mar-15 17:59:36

He's a very funny writer. Had he written anything before this?

lu9months Sun 22-Mar-15 19:23:17

thanks imperialblether, he had written an article for the Times last year about his diagnosis, and always fancied comedy writing, but law took up all his time. it was only when he had time off work for treatment that he got round to doing what he always wanted to, and wrote a book - some silver lining in a dark, dark cloud but he is really enjoying seeing the positive feedback

chocolatemademefat Mon 23-Mar-15 00:17:53

Have just bought the book for my kindle. I wish you both all the luck in the world. X
