to have been shocked by Cuba?

Watching 'the secret life of 4 year olds' I noticed that Cuba was never told off for hitting Skyla and it was even seen as a positive trait by the experimenting scientists. How is that alright?

I thought this toots was going to be about a response to sanctions....please tell me that some fool has not actually lumbered a child with that name....

PastPerfect Sat 14-Feb-15 07:51:11

Toots = post

RandomNPC Sat 14-Feb-15 07:52:39

I was going to comment on the stupid names too, but stopped before I did so as some MN posters are so precious about it

MummyIsNotMyName Sat 14-Feb-15 07:55:40

I was also shocked by the fact that his mother said that 'he knows which berries he can eat' as though he was just eating from bushes!

Justwhy Sat 14-Feb-15 07:58:08

You didn't see him get told off. Don't believe everything you see on T.V.

MummyIsNotMyName Sat 14-Feb-15 08:00:18

I'm not? I'm just saying that it's not a good thing to project to potential parents watching that it is good to hit other children.

carabos Sat 14-Feb-15 08:04:54

Cuba only works as a name on Cuba Gooding.

MarvellousMaisiesMummy Sat 14-Feb-15 08:09:49

I think you just hate Cuba because he's middle class.

MarvellousMaisiesMummy Sat 14-Feb-15 08:10:09

I don't see you hating on Chaim.

TheSolitaryWanderer Sat 14-Feb-15 08:12:01

'I'm just saying that it's not a good thing to project to potential parents watching that it is good to hit other children.'

Well, they'll soon realise their mistake once they have a real toddler and facing other real parents of the child theirs has walloped.
I wouldn't worry.

UncleT Sat 14-Feb-15 08:12:15

Fuck it, I don't mind saying it - made-up, bullshit names like some of these are the pits. They sound stupid. Plain stupid.

RandomNPC Sat 14-Feb-15 08:14:20

'chaim' too? Jesus.

RaisingDaisyAndLillie Sat 14-Feb-15 08:14:52

Cuba is a country, UncleT. It's not a made up name. It's just a stupid name to give a child.

TheSolitaryWanderer Sat 14-Feb-15 08:16:06

There are some wonderful names on school registers ATM. smile
Doesn't bother me, most of the children are lovely despite the moniker.

RaisingDaisyAndLillie Sat 14-Feb-15 08:17:25

It's the parents who are usually smug and unpleasant. That's what I've found as a teacher.

TheSolitaryWanderer Sat 14-Feb-15 08:17:46

Chaim is a Hebrew name for 'life' and has been around for a long time Random. Did you think it was made up?

Mammanat222 Sat 14-Feb-15 08:17:59

Whilst were name bashing I am not a fan of Skyla either.

RaisingDaisyAndLillie Sat 14-Feb-15 08:19:11

Cuba's mother was horrendous. Who lets their child eat random berries?

Mammanat222 Sat 14-Feb-15 08:19:30

And don't even get me started on Chaim - what the actual fuck?

RandomNPC Sat 14-Feb-15 08:19:46

Is it? I stand corrected then.

UncleT Sat 14-Feb-15 08:19:56

Clearly I know Cuba is the name of a country. Giving it to a child is twattish though and I'm afraid it does get lumped in with all the made-up, contrived names for the same reason that it's not a fucking name and sounds stupid (when given to a person, obviously, as per the context of discussion).

UncleT Sat 14-Feb-15 08:20:26

Chaim is a traditional Jewish name - been around since forever.

HoraceCope Sat 14-Feb-15 08:21:38

another not impressed with Skyla

effing four year olds though!

123Jump Sat 14-Feb-15 08:26:07

His mother doesn't let him eat random berries. Surely that was the point? He has been taught which berries he can and can't eat.
You do know that all the berries you eat have come from a bush outside, don't you?
What is wrong with eating fruit from where it grows?confused
Although I personally found that family a bit too try hard in their 'hey we are just so alternative and different, y'know, we live by our own rules, man' routine.
