Not about accents but about education. If I wrote things as I actually speak them (Yorkshire dialect) then it would most probably be un-decipherable to the vast majority.

The English language is like a river. It changes and adapts in time and because of it's location. Who is to say 'lent' and 'borrowed' won't be universally interchangeable in the future? Who says people who flout the 'rules' aren't some kind of leaders in language adaptation. Nobody owns language, so nobody can appoint themselves as language police. People with OCD and types of autism are exempt as, I understand, irregularities might make their brains itch.

Spelling mistakes do not equal illiteracy.

I teach Adult Literacy, mainly to young mums desperate to improve themselves so they can help their children. They don't accept it. And for every one of them that has the courage to sign up for a class, there are 10 too ashamed and embarrassed to set foot in a classroom.

On behalf of all of those mums, fuck off.
