AIBU?

To be annoyed by supervisor and not know what to do?

Hiya, I'm doing an MRes course atm which consists of taught modules and research modules. For the last 2 months we've not had our timetabled Friday afternoon session. DH is working on Friday until quite late so I said I'd pick up DSS from school so his DM wouldn't be messed around - it's DH's weekend and so he sees it as his / our responsibility for childcare if for whatever reason he can't pick him up on time. Now my supervisor has been in touch (through somebody else, he's not even spoken to each of us directly!) saying he will be doing the afternoon session and so we won't be finished until around 6pm meaning I won't get to DSS's until around 7pm - by which point DH may as well pick him up.

AIBU to be really annoyed by this and what the heck do I do? Do I say sod you I'm going to pick up my DSS or what? We don't have family who can pick him up instead and I don't think it's fair for DSS's DM to be messed around with this. DH missing work isn't an option and tbh we've no idea what to do.

Isn't it worth just talking to your dss's mum to get her input?

Your options are to find childcare or to pick up later, and as a RP I know I'd rather look after my child myself than have my child go to child care for no real reason, even if technically us parents had agreed that that afternoon would be ex's time. But then I have a good parenting relationship with my ex, and we are both flexible and helpful to each other.

Tbh their relationship isn't great and I know it'd just end up in a big row unfortunately. 7pm seems quite late for pick up but then maybe it's not too bad, would still give them an hr or so before bed.

Can you contact the supervisor and ask if you can leave earlier? He might be quite understanding if you explain why.
