AIBU?

To be confused by the notion of sophisticated porn?

I've always been under the impression that it was the portrayal of some fairly basic bodily functions. I'd believed that sophistication involved refinement.

I can't help but see sophisticated porn as an oxymoron.

Dora - it was me who suggested that lots of people see adult pornography as being 'sophisticated' and a sign of 'maturity' - a v 'grown up' thing as compared with the horrible plain abuse of indecent images of children - from whence this TAAT sprang.
fwiw the 'pornography isn't 'sophisticated' - you are being quite misleading there.

Sorry, I didn't realise that you meant grown up. That could be true. Lots of harmful things are supposed to be grown up, smoking, drinking. I could see how youngsters might think it's part of being an adult.

Mind you, with classifications and watersheds, aren't they right, in a way. If the world tells them it's a grown up thing to get porn, then they'd be right.

Oh I see! I was picturing naked ladies in long gloves and tiaras pole-dancing in Harrods...

There used to be a movement which argued that we should be more like Holland, less hung up about sex and porn, and then our children wouldn't grow up to think of obtaining it (or making it) aspirational. I haven't been following the be-like-them argument lately. But, it seems to have quietened down.

You'll be needing Silvio Berlusconi's telephone number, then. I'll dig it out.

Not read the thread that this is about, but I see sophisticated porn as more realistic? better filmes? it's what you'd call female friendly. it's gentle, more "cute". I know a lot of people who run "cute porn" blogs which is nice photography, videos of real couples who've submitted them, just "nice" porn, laughing, giggling, no close ups, good lighting, things like that.

I don't know what a cute porn blog is. But, isn't this somewhere in the direction of the line between porn and erotica. One makes a claim to be art. I have heard of feminist porn. But, I've never seen any.

Oxymoron. Sounds like "fragrant shite" to me. Or "scrupulous MP".
