He just thinks it was harmless. 'If you don't like it, don't look.' I'd like to educate him but I can't seem to find the words.

He's intelligent but can't seem to get this one.

Nicknacky Tue 20-Jan-15 23:04:15

Why not just express your feelings as you normally would?

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses Tue 20-Jan-15 23:12:11

I can't get the words. There are people here far more eloquent than me (usually!)

AnyFucker Tue 20-Jan-15 23:14:47

look here no more page 3

iklboo Tue 20-Jan-15 23:14:57

Wonder if he'd have been happy for you to do it. Or his mum.

jimmycrackcornbutidontcare Tue 20-Jan-15 23:16:58

I think he probably knows it was wrong.

AnyFucker Tue 20-Jan-15 23:17:41

and here the founder of the Everyday sexism project gives her view

Theboodythatrocked Tue 20-Jan-15 23:18:24

Boobs arnt news!

It's a news paper not a lads mag

Time and place time and place.

Do you have children? If yes does he want his girl to think her contribution to world News are her tits?

If you have lads does he want them to see you as a woman portrayed by the fact you have tits? Is that news?

Not eloquent at all but just had the sane discussion with ds 23 and dds 15,14.

That was their view.

DeliciousMonster Tue 20-Jan-15 23:19:29

Is it news that women have tits? No

Hobsandpeanuts Tue 20-Jan-15 23:20:18

He's intelligent but can't seem to get this one

If he is intelligent and he has thought carefully on the subject I think you are wasting your time trying to convince him otherwise. You can tell him how you feel about it, but you can't persuade him to change his opinion.

I don't agree with him, but I can also see his point of view.

Nicknacky Tue 20-Jan-15 23:20:57

You might just have a difference of opinion where you won't agree! Not every couple has to think the same.

slightlyworriednc Tue 20-Jan-15 23:21:01

Well, why do you think it was wrong? If you don't know, then do you really think it's wrong, or are you just 'toeing the party line' with regards to feminism?
It can't be your opinion, can it, if you can't even explain it?

RandomNPC Tue 20-Jan-15 23:23:33

It's just his point of view, he's entitled to one! Personally, I was never bothered about it one way or the other.

AnyFucker Tue 20-Jan-15 23:23:46

have a look at this thread here

everything that birdo83 says....say the opposite

unless birdo83 is your which case, leave the bastard

SabrinaMulhollandJjones Tue 20-Jan-15 23:24:15

I've noticed the campaigners really concentrate on the 'boobs are not news' aspect - that this has no place in a supposedly family newspaper.

My brother was of the 'is page 3 still going on?" and then 'it's harmless <shrug> variety' but I talked him round.

I can't really remember what I said, but it was along the lines of I can't walk down the street topless, so why is it in a national newspaper? Seemed to convince him!

AnyFucker Tue 20-Jan-15 23:25:21

gotta laugh at op being faintly accused of "toeing the (feminism) party line" on AIBU grin

Because Page 3 says that the only reason for a woman to be in the paper is so men can gawk at her boobs - it belittles and denigrates the amazing things that women are doing in the world today - women are making news, they aren't just decorations for men's viewing pleasure!

Theboodythatrocked Tue 20-Jan-15 23:29:40

He's not that intelligent really is he op? My kids have rationalised this one!

What does toeing the party line mean slightly what party?

AnyFucker Tue 20-Jan-15 23:31:23

the Raving Monster Lunatic Feminist Party, of course

don't be so dim wink

Theboodythatrocked Tue 20-Jan-15 23:32:14

It's laughably old fashioned too. How old is he op? My lads of 25,24 think it's for sad old wankers! Maybe tell him that

DemelzaandRoss Tue 20-Jan-15 23:34:34

Actually, the whole point of feminism is for equality. Maybe it is ok for women to choose what they want to do. If that entails topless modelling...fine...their choice.

TheCunnyFunt Tue 20-Jan-15 23:34:51

Dp brought The Sun home from work today (he brings the papers home that his colleagues don't want because we use them to light our fire), I flipped it open to see a big photo of a young woman on P3 in black lacy lingerie (bra, knickers, suspenders and stockings), plus a few smaller, similar images. Apparently this young woman was posing in her own lingerie range.

It was basically P3, disguised as an advert for this womans lingerie range.

Theboodythatrocked Tue 20-Jan-15 23:35:06

grin next we will hear that glamour models are all out of work now! Maybe your dh is worried about employment rights?

Theboodythatrocked Tue 20-Jan-15 23:36:41

Deme indeed but not in a news paper unless you think tits are news? Yes?

mrsfuzzy Tue 20-Jan-15 23:40:00

some people forget these so called glamour models probably do very well financially and are laughing to the bank thanks to sad pervs, who is using who ? have never read the red tops but should imagine it wasn't too good.
