To want the dr to do more

I've been lying on my living room floor for 20 hours since bending down to pick up my phone and doing something to my back. I literally can't move-can't roll over, sit up, anything. Called gp and they have given me painkillers but they aren't touching the pain and I still can't move.

AIBU to want someone to do SOMETHING? How long am I expected to lie like this??!! (Self-pity alert!)

If you can't get up to pee you need an ambulance, you can't lie there for days starving and peeing!

Tramadol is a super strong painkiller, I don't know what else they could give you really. is it 50mg? Have you taken two?

If you can't get up then you need an ambulance. They will get you up (won't necessarily take you to hospital). Did the gp do their consultation with you lying on the floor?

You need to call an ambulance now. The same happened to my husband and although the ambulance didn't bother showing up for 15 hours regardless of repeated calls the crew said why didn't we call earlier as they weren't busy! Nice! He has to have gas and air and morphine to get him on the stretcher. Call now in case there is a wait. I am sure there won't be but you do need them.

I,ve had to pee in a plastic dish called NHs 24 last night who sent out a nurse practitioner. They gave me an injection and tried to move me, but that just made the pain worse. They thought after a sleep and once the painkillers kicked in it would be a lot better, but it isn't. Called the gp today who prescribed stronger diazepam over the phone.

Sorry to be crude but what if I need to poo???! I don't know what I want the drs to do, as I can't even shuffle along a bit so couldn't even get on a stretcher but I can't just lie here for days surely?? Hardly drinking because a) it's hard to do lying on your back and b) it'll make me want to pee. Just starting to panic as it's nearly 24 hours now and nothing is improving!

Never advisable to diagnose over the internet but it does sound like a slipped/herniated disc.

do keep taking in liquids, you don't want to get dehydrated and put your kidneys under strain - that won't help back pain!

If you've genuinely been lying in the floor for 20 hours and cannot move then i think you need to call for an ambulance.

Agreed, if you've tried everything primary care are willing to give you at home you need an ambulance. Don't worry about the what happens when they get here bit, that's their job!

I agree, you need an ambulance. They will bring gas and air, which should ease things enough to get you up. You can't just lie on the floor til it esses

Genuinely been lying here for 20 hours. Can't even roll onto my front. I was thinking about calling an ambulance, but would hate to think I was wasting their time (plus scared of the pain of moving!) but even if they could help me get upstairs into bed (and nearer the toilet!) that would be great.

My dp is here with me, but he can't move me either.

I agree. you need to call for an ambulance. They prob won't prioritise you but that's ok, at least you know help is on the way. You really can't spend 48 hours lying on a floor unable to get up or to the bathroom

Yes does sound like an ambulance job really if you had all the painkillers and are still having to pee in a dish. No one should have to stay like that !

Nurse came out (6am), had a bit of a prod about, gave me a painkilling injection and a diazepam tablet, waited about 10 mins, tried to move me (along with dp), I howled with pain and burst into tears. They said that the drugs would knock me out a bit and that being asleep might help my back relax, told me to call gp in morning, and left me lying on floor!

When I called gp , they said it wasn't appropriate to keep giving me injections (??!) and that there wasn't much more they could give me. To make matters worse, I was meant to be at the hospital today to begin Ivf and so believe me, if I could have moved, I would!

Am starting to think now I would be justified in calling an ambulance. I,ve given the drugs time to work and they haven't. The nurse practitioner seemed to think it was just some kind of spasm but it's really low down in my back and when my back has went into spasm before, it was higher up and did clear after the painkiller/muscle relaxant combo. The pain when it happened was more like being stabbed or electrocuted, it was that intense.

This happened to me and the advice I had on MN saved me. They told me that staying still was the worst thing and that I had to move about. It was absolute agony but I did it...I could only move a few inches at a atime but I kept at it and then eventually I stood and walked about..
