Yabu not everyone can manage stairs or wants to live in a ground floor flat.

Perhaps you might end up in a wheelchair one day, but still want your garden.

Can you really not imagine why someone might have to live. Somewhere with no stairs?

How strange.

I totally understand them for the elderly or those with mobility problems.

I don't get why you'd want one if stairs aren't a problem for you though - far less square footage for your money.

On the other hand ... our bungalow is 1400 sq. ft. Try and get that in a house nowadays.

Anyway, we had no choice but to buy a bungalow. Wheelchairs don't climb stairs too well.

Every building should be a high rise op?

A well-designed bungalow can use space much more efficiently than many houses in my experience. And if mobility problems occur, you don't need to turn your only reception room into a bedroom.

YABU to not be able to understand this concept.
God, I wish I had a bungalow. Envy

Confused

My grandmother lives in a bungalow because she's elderly, frail! registered blind and can't manage the stairs anymore.

I wouldn't choose to live in a bungalow at this point in my life, but may need to in the future.

House prices are sky high here in the South, my neighbours have knocked down a house to build a bungalow!! They are a young family with 2 children.
Why would they do that the house is worth more than the bungalow?

Sorry I should have explained that earlier but I was rushing to get the kids.

YABU. What a ridiculous question! Of course there's a point to bungalows otherwise they wouldn't exist would they? There are many people who couldn't manage to live in a house with stairs and some people who just prefer to have their house all on one level.

Pshaw! Goady Fucker Alert!

Why would they do that the house is worth more than the bungalow?

Because they prefer to live in a bungalow and because it is none of your business!

So we should only build bungalows in the North? Confused

Report

Maybe they just prefer bungalows.

Some friends of ours recently moved into one. They specifically wanted a bungalow as they're planning on adding an upstairs to make it a dormer. They've got bags of room downstairs and the option to extend into the loft without the expense and hassle of an extension

Notwithstanding the slightly bizarre question, do they still build bungalows?

Also, when I was in Dublin once, I noticed that they had terraced bungalows and I realised I'd never seen such a thing anywhere else Confused.

Bungalows are perfect for many people and anyway, some parts of the country still have plenty of places available to build on.

Do you have detailed and intimate knowledge of your neighbours' medical and social backgrounds OP?

Knocking down a house to build a bungalow isn't the normal way round, but maybe they have a really cool and contemporary design?

We absolutely adore our bungalow. We find stairs a bit tricky now. And just the two of us would be lost inside a house. Our last place was a house, and this bungalow is infinitely better.
I watched a prog on TV a while back that said bungalows are now in demand, even by young couples. Another advantage is that each room can be anything you like. Our third bedroom is actually our little study. One of our neighbours, an elderly widow, uses her second bedroom as a second sitting room as it's sunny in there, and another bedroom is her sewing room. They're so flexible.
We wouldn't want a flat because we like gardening and our 3 cats need to go outside.

They have terraced bungalows in the North East which I had never seen before I moved here, they are huge inside!

it now looks very odd in a street full of houses. Each to their own.
