I bought a beko washing machine from currys. i paid extra to have install and my old one taken away. Because there was not a little blue tap under the sink he refused to do it. it just needed to be turned anti clock wise and can be done by hand. this is what i done myself no tools needed... so my old machine was left in and my new one in the hall. im on my own and 6 months pregnant. on my own i had to turn the water off. then pull old machine out. disconnect it and then i had to get my old machine out of my back door on my own. i then had to bring the new machine from the hall into my kitchen and fit it in/connect it again on my own. i could have hurt myself all because the man refused to turn the water off. it does not say any where in terms that there must be a small blue tap under my sink. the guy even tried to tell me it was broken inside the tube.. i dont think he can see inside of a tube unless its see through which its not...

I have already called currys and the guy i spoke to was very rude in how how spoke to me and his tone. i asked to speak to a manager he refused to let me and said the managers are there for him not for me. so im sending you this email so that my complaint is in writing. i think its quite disgusting that i have come across 2 very unhelpful people in a short period of time who are meant to be there to help people.

Yabu. They are installers not plumbers and would have assumed the pipe work was standard not that they would need to turn off the water. They should refund the extra charge though.

It's a bit of a commentary rather than a complaint so I'd lose the references about men being unable to see inside tubes. Instead, I'd say "I was told that the stopcock was broken although this could not have been diagnosed from a brief observation". Or similar.

You also need to tell them how you expect the situation resolved. You paid extra for a service you didn't get. So when can you expect a refund?

There's far too much commentary and narrative in that communication to have any serious chance if a successful outcome.
I can't quite understand whether the correct facilities were in place for the installation but if you paid for the service and they couldn't provide it I think you should be refunded.

If you have the taps on the pipes all you do is turn them off, place a bucket underneath to catch drips as you detach and reattach the pipes then turn back on . You don't turn off the water supply itself.

It's an expression in some circles, suggesting that your post made me laugh so much, there's now a mouthful of coffee in my keyboard - take it as a compliment Grin

With a complaint you need to be brief, factual and clear on the outcome you want.

OMG, I had a near identical experience nearly 10 years ago, even down to the 6mths pregnant bit! The only difference was they said they couldn't get to the back of the sink to plumb it in - I seemed to manage it though!.... fuckers!!

Email customer service, also see if you can find out who the stores regional manager is and email them. The store is not going to give you it though.

Also get on twitter and blast then to death. They have a social media team.

I'd say that the colleges has been told that phrase from his manager because they're lazy b**tards.
And make sure you go into store and male site you get the installion cost refunded

They always find an excuse not to take away my old stuff. Once, it was because the old one was broken. Well, yes, that's why I paid to have you take it away for recycling.

Once was because there was ony one of them and I should've informed them that my item was so heavy it would require two people.

Another time, I had the same problem you did - they took one look at my setup (electricity supply for the old oven - basically, a special cooker socket) and said as it was not compliant wih the new standard they couldn't in all conscience unplug my old cooker and plug the new one in install my cooker, and even if I did the plugging in installation, they couldn't take the old one away.

It's especially annoying if you chose that seller, despite them being slightly higher-priced, because they had a "free" recycling service and therefore worked out cheaper overall, because then of course there's nothing to refund when they refuse to take away your old appliance.

The store don't care about what the installation team can't do because they are 2 completely different systems. And if the delivery people say they can't do something the store belive them because they weren't there.

in my case i was ok. but what if someone hurt them self because the person who was meant to install it refused to stop the water there for would not carry out the install. they should not offer it if they cant do it unless they have a good reason not to

John Lewis did the same to me. Brand new kitchen, no blue tap.

Dishwasher stuck in middle of the floor. DH had to do it when he got home.

They wouldn't disconnect and remove the old one as... No blue tap.

We'd paid for the service and only got it partly refunded. And had to take our old machine to the tip.

They have insurance rules they have to follow I know it's stupid. I do believe he genuinely Couldn't install it because the tap wasn't there but I do think he should of stayed and done the heavy lifting and you could turn the tap yourself.

Thats what makes me think he just did not want to do it, justbatter to tell me a tube is broken inside. is rubbish. im quite sure water would have been pissing out of it had that been the case. and like you say he could have helped if he had just said if you turn the water of i will...
