AIBU?

To think DP could be slightly more upset

He's somehow lost DS's sling. The sling that gets used multiple times every day, and is just about the best thing (and one of very few non-second-hand items) we've bought for DS. The sling that is in fact the only fucking way to get him to have a nap during the day.

I think he put DS in the car, put the sling on top of the car, and drove off Angry.

We can't afford to replace it, and all he keeps saying when I suggest a new place to look is 'Let it go. It doesn't matter.' I'm just ranting here because I don't want to rant at him as it was a stupid careless idiotic mistake but AIBU to think he could act like he cares A LITTLE BIT.

Disclaimer: I don't actually care if IABU because I haven't had a decent night's sleep for six months, I've got the tail-end of gastroenteritis and IT WAS LOVELY AND HAD ROCKETS ON IT AND I ACTUALLY CHOSE IT INSTEAD OF GETTING IT IN A STUPID SECOND-HAND BUNDLE.

Sad

Bloody hell I would be annoyed too. I would get started looking for replacement on eBay or similar, or actually get him onto it.

YANBU. When something really works for a fractious small child, its loss is a fucking global tragedy. What is he going to do about finding it or tracking down an affordable replacement? Or am I reading between the lines that you're going to be the one who suffers most from having a non-napping baby?

TendonQueen · 05/01/2015 20:36

YANBU. I would be saying 'It may not matter to you, but it does to me. I want to discuss what we can sell or cut back on for the next few months to cover the cost of the replacement' and start looking around at his most prized possessions.

He probably won't be as upset as you because he won't benefit from the sling as much as you do.

Can you get a second hand one?

Imwoodword · 05/01/2015 20:38

What sling was it? It is shit, I'm sorry for you Flowers

Do you have a picture of the sling? You could post on one or several of the sling related groups on fb and people will keep an eye out for it (either as a lost/found item, or see if it comes up for sale). Worth a try?

And no, YADNBU. Mistakes happen, but at the very least he should be apologising for it!

How much would it cost to replace?

I can imagine how upset you feel. What sort/brand was it?

Yes def get posting about it. Are you on the Facebook groups. It would put a claim for yours if it popped up at least. Do you want to tell us whereabouts you are so we can help?

Or get your local slingmeet onit?

Oh my goodness! Slings are a lifeline in this house!

If he has genuinely lost it and you think it might have been picked up it's worth putting a photo of it on the various Fb slings selling sites - I know of several that have found their way home that way.

Also, you can use a pashmina or similar wide non stretchy scarf as a rebozo ring sling, or a cot sheet or towel as a torso carry like a kanga. You tube will be your friend here until you get a replacement or find it Smile

YANBU. If DH had lost my Ergo when DS didn't nap anywhere but strapped in it, there would have been tears.

Definitely try posting on local FB sites in case anyone found it and also some of the FB sling sites. You never know.

YANBU.

I hate the attitude of 'it doesn't affect me so it shouldn't affect you'. Pisses me off. And if it makes your life so much easier he's being a tit by not replacing it/at least acknowledging he's cocked up.

MN is fantastic at lost items.

Post a pic and the location and see what MN can do

This is infuriating. But getting angry isn't really going to help. I agree with trying to think of all the places it could be and then look again. If no luck try and get a second hand one.

Let it go. It doesn't matter.

Erm, it does bloody matter - hence being so fucking annoyed.

CruCru · 05/01/2015 20:59

That is incredibly annoying. I would cry in front of him. Then I would do what TendonQueen suggested.

In fact I would be enraged. I am enraged. On your behalf.

I would rant at him. And keep ranting. On and on and on and on. For days. Whenever he mentions buying anything say no because you can't afford to replace the sling.

I am really annoyed on your behalf.

I also have a Mamas & Papas wrap/sling thing that I tried a couple of times with DD but she never took to - you are welcome to it if you want?

Oh my lord I can totally understand your pain. He's being a git. I think Tendonqueen' s suggestion is excellent.

(if that doesn't work, suggest leaving him with non napping child and going out for a day to do "sling research" on your own, maybe then he will appreciate the value of the lost item if he has to carry fractious child around all day)
