AIBU?

to put 2 single duvets on a double bed?

It'll be in a holiday rental house which is why I am asking - I would be quite pleased with this arrangement but would it be too strange to turn up to your double bedroom to find two single duvets??
They would be so much easier to launder too....

If I was renting a holiday house, I would expect to find a double duvet on a double bed.

So you own the other house and you're expecting people to pay to stay there?

Yes, YABU. Go buy a cheap double from Asda or summat.

Other? Rental!

Dh and I share a bed but not the duvet, we have our own and love it. If we stay at a holiday cottage I actually take my duvet!

I think people might think it a little strange. We have a King size duvet on double bed and I can see the attraction of two singles if it were my own bed and it suited us both, but if I went to stay somewhere I might think that you were giving puritanical messages.

oooh you see you're all marmite-y about this - no sitting on the fence!!

I will buy best quality for the house - so price is not the issue - rather convenience an comfort.

I love this arrangement, haven't shared a duvet for years (husband rather large, hogs duvet). I do think many people wouldn't expect this though so as others have said you should provide a double duvet for others in a rental property (and then perhaps a single extra in the wardrobe).

I always ask for another duvet when in hotels, they do look at me strangely though so it can't be that common.

But OP people pay a lot of money to stay in a holiday rental. Its a bit crappy of you to do this to make life easier for you. Just use a duvet protector, and fork out to get the thing dry cleaned every few months.

It's not very welcoming.

I'd prefer it personally. It's the norm in Europe. I hate sleeping under a double duvet, two singles is much more flexible.

No it's washing the duvet covers that I mean for convenience - I have stayed in houses in France where there were two duvets and I thought it was a great idea but obviously don't want to alienate any potential customers.

So far the consensus is for sticking to convention with a double.

In Germany they always have 2 duvets on a double bed but I think it would be considered a bit unusual here. I wouldn't mind though

I wouldn't like it. DH and I sleep spooned mostly, it doesn't work with two duvets, there is always a cold gap.

noitsbecky · 05/01/2015 10:07

I would be gutted if there wasn't one 'whole' bed with a double duvet for DH and I. We sleep snuggled up together.

I'm against it. However, on the bright side I can tell you that the only hotel I have stayed in that had this arrangement was the one and only Gleneagles . (I won't be going back...)

Me and DH do this, and would be very happy to find two duvets. Don't think many other people would though.

I would think it was bonkers, especially as I would be planning to do DH if we were on holiday and enjoy an under duvet rendezvous.

I would expect a double or king tbh but if money no object you could offer the choice in advance as some clearly would like it, as standard then sorry nope.

Any German visitors would find it very normal. I quite like it as there is no tussling over the covers, but I would prefer a super super kingsize duvet so there is plenty of duvet to go around.

Depends on who you're going to have staying. If your advertising in the UK, go with a double. If you're planning on letting to Europeans, use two singles.
We sleep with two singles now and it's easier, more comfortable, and more flexible in term of playing musical beds with DS. And it's still easy enough to wriggle my cold feet under the other duvet to stick them on DH. Grin

After trying out lots of different ways of doing this, we have settled on a double duvet each on a king sized bed. Easy enough to share when you like, pick up your own when necessary. Bliss.

Yes, in Northern Europe it is quite normal at home. But I've not encountered it in hotels.
My kingsize duvet fits in my washing machine, it is a do-able ratio with the right combination.

I would be a bit miffed if I encountered this in a holiday rental as it's obviously done for the owner's convenience and not the guests comfort.
