AIBU?

My husband and his stupid gadgets

AIBU to be so cross with my husband?

He's gone out for the day and I told him that my plans for the day were to watch a movie that my DS and I have been looking forward to watching.

We come to snuggle up and watch it but can I get any sound on the TV? DH is obsessed with his gadgets and we don't have a 'normal' set up so before you can watch the TV anyway you have to use 3 different remotes to switch everything on.

I've spent 10 mins messing with all of the settings on the various remotes but nothing. As I'm trying to watch it through the playstation, I'm assuming it's something to do with that but the audio settings on that might aswell be written in Chinese.

I'm so cross! I've tried searching for the film on Sky, OnDemand and Netflix but it's not on there. I know this is first world problems but why can't anything be simple?!

DH says does he have surround sound? Switch that on.

(you have my complete sympathy)

I have the same problem with 18-year old DS - enrages me, when in the odd occasion, I'm in alone and want to watch TV, and I can't get sound/picture/normal TV. I have called him at work (in a bar) twice now to get instructions. I think that has embarrassed him enough to now leave it as he found it.

Fluffy - I've tried everything and I can't figure it out but thanks for the suggestion.

We've had words about this before and usually he leaves it alone but I've no idea what he's done to it.

I'm glad I'm not alone!

Sounds exactly like my husband. It pisses me off to the effing max. Can't just put a film on a dvd player. He has raspberry pie, chromecast, a fucking nas drive and many more gadgets that I know or neither care about. It is so frustrating. I just wanna watch a film ffs haha.

fluffys dh hear.
has the control for the surround sound got a "function" button on it? what that does is it picks up what you are useing. i.e the playstation...what i would do is play the film as normal and keep pressing that button till some noise comes out.

Thanks fluffy's DH, I've tried that (on both the TV and the stupid fucking sound bar) but nothing.

Thanks for your offer of help though!

Can you contact him at all?

It's inconsiderate to leave something set up like that, either return it to how it was or keep your gadgets and strange set up off the tv used by all the family. Tbh having to use 3 remote controls just to watch it would try my patience and I wouldn't put up with it, surely the idea of technology is to make things simpler and easier to use, one action instead of several?

Check the leads. We lose sound on our dvd player if the scart comes a bit loose.

Goofy!

I hate it when oh upgrades our system. I do not like spending time learning new buttons.

He's just text back, he took out a cable to use in another gadget so no chance of resolving until he gets home later.

FFS!! Angry

I feel your pain. We have an idiot proof remote though that does everything for you. Press 'watch TV' and it turns the tv on, the sound on, the tv to the right input and turn the digital box on too. The remote has a colour screen that then has pictures of the different tv channel logos and I then just press that button to get the channels.
If I want to watch netflix on the Apple TV I press a different button and it changes everything over.

I could never divorce him because I couldn't work it all on my own.

pipbin what is the name of that remote? I think we might need one!

Tartan, I'd be holding some of his cables hostage until he sees how frustrating this is.

It's a Harmony remote. You set it all up on the computer. It's not cheap but it makes life so much easier - and it's another gadget for DH to fiddle with and set up.

Oh, I feel for you, mine does this, it has had me and the DCs in tears tryng to play a CD before now, I just want to put it in, press a button and listen, not faff around with amps, pre-amps, DAC, whatever. Just when you get used to how it's set up he changes it all without telling me.

He's just text back, he took out a cable to use in another gadget so no chance of resolving until he gets home later.

So when he gets back the first thing he does is put this right so you and DS can watch your film. Then he makes you a drink to enjoy while you are watching with your feet up and he is in the kitchen cooking the dinner to make amends.

TartanTrousers · 04/01/2015 20:28

He returned, fixed it and DS and I finally got to watch the film (no drink though!)

I told him if it happens again then I won't be responsible for my actions Grin

Oh this gives me the rage! My DH does similar. He pisses around with my computer (or frankensteins monster as I 'affectionately' call it) so virtually every time I want to use it I have to have him on standby. And then he gets all stroppy with me!
