Ive put my Tv up for sale on gumtree for £50, just now I had a message from someone asking if I deliver, I said yes I deliver but only within x city, she then asks if I will take 40. I say no the price is non negotiable, which is fair as its a 28" tv only 3 months old we just don't need it anymore. She then says she has 2 kids and only 45 pounds to last until Monday... Aibu to detest sob stories like this? Either she's trying it on for a better deal or is terrible at managing her money. If I had 45 to my name I wouldn't go out and spend the vast majority on something so non essential...

Tell her to save her money for essentials she will need over the weekend. Well maybe don't but certainly don't drop your price. She's full of shit.

If she only has £45 to last till Monday, she really shouldn't be spending £40 on a TV. The whole thing smells.

I wont be dropping the price. If I was selling tins of baby milk or nappies id think differently but come on a tv!?

Don't engage in anymore contact with this one. Before you know it, she will have convinced you to give it to her as a late Xmas present for her kids as well as deliver it to her. YANBU

If I only had £45 to my name and responsible for 2DCs I would not be buying a tv.

I dont blame her for trying it could be true..however its up to you to take her offer or simpy ignore it...

say you are equally hard up and therefore need the full 45.

'Well if you're still interested on Monday, let me know and I'll tell you whether it's still available or not. The price is the same though'.

Yanbu. I hate a sob story too, especially a ridiculous one.

She is trying it on. Don't drop the price if you don't want to.

Bit daft trying to buy a £40 tv with only 45 quid and 2 Dc. I would ignore her or tell her sorry no.

I've been in some pretty crap states financially but never once has it occurred to me to spend 40 out of my last 45 on a tv, Do people that are this bad with money exist?!

I had similar on eBay recent,y when selling some children's uggs. I was only charging 7 0pounds but she emailed asking if I would sell them for 4.50 as she was recovering from and illness and no money to her name

Sad if true but really you just have to ignore its not really your problem

Respond saying you've only got 50p to last till Monday, that's why you're selling the TV.

Yeap, she's trying it on and how

I'm sure they do exist but i suspect it's bullshit personally. Tell her to contact you when she's got the funds without overstretching herself. Cheek cow.

Agree with PP. Do not engage. It's ludicrous. Noone needs a TV that badly. Especially not when they have the means to be on Gumtree ie internet access.

I suspect its bullshit. Don't drop the price, even if it's on Monday.

Just what I was going to say Icimoi!
People have an enormous cheek don't they?

We watched a prog about Life on Benefits and 2 women went and got tattoos costing £50 each, then grumbled that their money had (obviously!) run out.

YANBU op.

She sounds a chancer and the likliehood is she'll sell it on for a profit. Don't fall for this. And anyway if she's that hard up why is she buying a TV. Tell her it's sold.

I won't be dropping the price as £50 for a 28" flatscreen tv is crazy low as it is so 50 is rock bottom.
however I just can't understand it! as stated if I was selling Formula or nappies then i'd be alot more sympathetic as that could feed and clothe a baby, However a tv won't put heating on or food in stomachs so i am baffled
