To hold in my stomach whilst weighing myself

In the hope that this will make me thinner? My friend says this is weird. I would be grateful for your opinions!

I do it too even though it won't make the number go down. I've noticed I do it. If you stand up straight though it can affect weight by making you lose 1/2lb sometimes.

YANBU If it helps you see the scales grin

CaulkheadUpNorth Fri 02-Jan-15 15:53:55

Yep, I do that too. I hold my breath as well. I don't know how I believe that will make any difference...confused

FoodieToo Fri 02-Jan-15 16:02:13

Me too !!
Am still a bit fat though .....

littleleftie Fri 02-Jan-15 16:04:06

Standing on one leg helps grin

Yeah, I reckon my PJs weigh around 7lbs.

Aubrianna Fri 02-Jan-15 16:05:36

I do this grin I also move my feet in case they somehow increase my weight by being slightly off centre (they don't)

Libitina Fri 02-Jan-15 16:08:58

I love it when women weigh themselves in Boots. They stand there and carefully take off their bag and coat and scarf and jumper and gloves and phone and car keys and step on the scales.

Whilst holding all of the above in their hand......

RufusTheReindeer Fri 02-Jan-15 16:14:44

I also hold my breathe

I am convinced that it makes a difference (nods sagely and goes off to feed the flying pigs)

Bulbasaur Fri 02-Jan-15 16:49:06

Aubrianna Me too! I make sure they're exactly in the middle of each "foot place". grin

WeirdCatLady Fri 02-Jan-15 17:16:26

Don't forget to breathe out too. And place the scales in exactly the same place each time. Every little helps wink

ThinkIveBeenHacked Fri 02-Jan-15 17:19:22

And do a great big poo before getting on the scales.

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK Fri 02-Jan-15 17:20:43

But breathing in will make you weigh more won't it? As your holding more weight within your body with the air

Boomtownsurprise Fri 02-Jan-15 17:21:27

I have to. Makes it easier to count the notches...

Getting swish new (suicidal machine) WW bmi scales tomoz. Hoping that helps!

GlitzAndGigglesx Fri 02-Jan-15 17:21:38

I used to take a few pounds off for my clothes and an extra couple if I was on my period grin

GlitzAndGigglesx Fri 02-Jan-15 17:23:16

Libitina my nan used to take off her coat with keys and purse in the pocket and hold it cause it takes a whole stone off doing that!

RufusTheReindeer Fri 02-Jan-15 18:18:59

scrambled

You are right!! My god that would explain the 10lb gain on the scales this morning...thank fuck for that grin

Only joking...I haven't been on the scales yet...I'm too afraid

GraysAnalogy Fri 02-Jan-15 18:20:21

I have to hold my boobs to be able to see the scales so YANBU!

DisenchantedPony Fri 02-Jan-15 18:29:41

I always, always, always do this and wondered if anyone else did! I swear it makes a difference.

I also peek at the dial with one eye open...now that's really kidding yourself!

ThePrincessWhoSatOnTheSprout Fri 02-Jan-15 18:31:39

I've found keeping one foot lightly on the ground whilst weighing myself helps me maintain a healthy weight! No idea why nothing fits me anymore...

CallMeExhausted Fri 02-Jan-15 19:54:09

You should do like and break something - no standing on the scales, then. And, if you DO feel compelled to perch upon them, your cast can weigh as much as you want it to.

I figure a cast from toes to knee must weigh at least 2 stone, right?

Easterchuck Fri 02-Jan-15 19:58:12

No, no, no you're all doing it wrong.
the secret is to not put your specs/lenses in before jumping on.
Squint a bit then make a considered guess. Then take off 4 lbs for the extra large coffee you just drank, then 3lbs more because you ate something salty which causes water retention.

Fluffyears Fri 02-Jan-15 21:02:48

If I weigh with my scales on carpet I
Lose 5 stone. Remember before weighing to pluck eyebrows and shave legs and armpits it will help lol.
