AIBU?

Is the new Apple returns policy too good to be true?

So due to an EU directive they now have a no quibble return within 14 days of purchase.

Surely this means I can purchase a movie, watch it and then get my money back?

Can someone clarify this as it sounds brilliant. There must be some catch.

Presumably if you 'return' films regularly then they will just cancel your account.

Bastards I knew there would be a catch.

I was going to use it as a free library, just buying films and then returning them.

I do not want them to cancel my account as there are rumours they are bringing out a streaming service soon, a bit like Spotify, so I want to subscribe to that if the price is right.

I loathe them with a passion. They have already ripped me off twice.

  1. I thought I was BUYING iTunes when all I was doing was leasing them from Apple. I did not read the small print
  2. I bought an iPhone5C and then when iOS8 came out I stupidly updated my OS and now phone does not work properly.

Mercenary bastards. Thought this loophole was my chance to get some revenge on them but sadly not.

I've returned a couple of itunes things through genuine mistakes and never had a problem. As for your knackered phone, try getting it sorted instead of just whinging. Pissing myself that they are mercenary bastards because you can't sort your phone out.

You don't own any electronic media, just the rights to use it, it's the same with Amazon and Kindle books. They have a similar returns policy and I've only used it once when a book I downloaded was not what I was expecting from the write up, they refunded straight away.

And agree with the poster above, take your phone into any Apple shop and they'll fix it for you. Their customer service on things like that is way better than anywhere else.

They haven't ripped you off at all. Confused

Oh no ral I'm with you on the update fucking up your phone! Same with mine. Worked perfectly until I updated to iOS8 Angry
I didn't know about the returns. Never bought anything expensive anyway. The albums are always more expensive than buying an actual copy!

Yes they have ripped me off.

Buy from the iTunes library leads one to believe they are BUYING something, not signing a lease agreement.

And iOS8 has deliberately fucked up my iPhone 5C as they believe in planned obsolescence.

Well it will be a cold drink in hell before I upgrade to iPhone 6. I am getting a Samsung so screw you Apple.

You can get refunds on Kindle books too if you send them back within 14 days

That's not them ripping you off, you should have read the T&C.

I wonder why DSs iPhone 4 and 4S are just fine then...?

I see you getting a Samsung next. They will also be "ripping you off" as Google Play also only grants you the license to use purchased content.

Soupdragon you need to watch the Human Centipad, an episode of South Park. Nobody reads the T&Cs as they go on FOR AGES and as I am not a legal professional I do not understand half the jargon in there.

That is how they catch you out the bastards.

I'll assume that you also don't use any other downloading service as they are just as bad.

Also I have an OLD iPad which upgraded to 8 fine and actually Apple are much better at supporting older models than android systems - it's a myth that they deliberately retire relatively new phones which the 5 definitely is.

If you are that bothered don't use them, otherwise get off the bandwagon and look more closely at the alternatives to see whether they are really all golden and wonderful in comparison.

Why does it matter if your music is leased or owned?

If you are having problems with ios8 on you iphone5c you have installed it incorrectly or the phone is faulty. Have you taken it to an Apple Store?

They haven't deliberately fucked up everything.
Like anything, there is always a percentage that will fail. It doesn't matter who the company are, or what the goods are. You unfortunately fell within that small percentage. However, take it in to the genius bar and they will do everything within their power to assist you. That is one of the things that makes their CS better, try take your Samsung in when it fails, oh wait you cannot. Instead you have to send it back to them, wait for someone to bother to look at it, and finally return it to you, turn around was 6 weeks, not same day when my week one Samsung broke.

When there was a fault on a few of the nano's, even though this model was around 6 years old, they recalled the whole batch and replaced with newer models.

As for renting. Yes, you rent digital media. It isn't any companies fault that you cannot be bothered to read the t&c's. It isn't any companies fault that you don't google for the basics of the t&c's. Apple are not the only company to do this.. So enjoy your future with your digitial downloads and being ripped off left, right and centre.
