I have come over all nostalgic at the fab smell!
I have tried to be all modern and have savlon and stuff but I'm back to TCP!. Accidental purchase as was bored in hospital. When I was a kid every thing had TCP put on it!

Its Dettol baths next I tell you! smile

NoLongerJustAShopGirl Wed 31-Dec-14 22:54:32

agree with Duffy 100% - smells foul and lingers FOREVER....

vinegarandbrownpaper Wed 31-Dec-14 22:55:14

smile Its cool! Do you think it will be a new ebola-led fragrance trend! grin

DuffyMoon Wed 31-Dec-14 22:56:26

Noooooo, the smell of it makes me gip... I can smell it from here

JeanetteDanielsBenziger Wed 31-Dec-14 22:57:26

I'd be nostalgic too, My old Granddad used to gargle with TCP.

NoLongerJustAShopGirl Wed 31-Dec-14 22:58:04

Nooooooooooo - my DH has mouth ulcer and he comes to bed reeking of the stuff, thankfully it works, so it is not often.

Hatespiders Wed 31-Dec-14 23:17:01

Oh groooo! Absolutely loathe the smell of TCP. Yuk!

TheCowThatLaughs Wed 31-Dec-14 23:19:36

Reminds me of having my ears pierced as a teenager! I've just remembered a horrible fake gold pair of plait-effect hoop earrings I used to have (and the embarrassment of people telling me I smelt of TCP)

Well that'll teach me. Tried to read the label to see what was in it.. and tipped some into the living room carpet fshock I wonder how much I'll like it after a few days! ..

OneSkinnyChip Thu 01-Jan-15 13:06:46

Next few days? Try next few years grin

iklboo Thu 01-Jan-15 13:10:01

I can smell it from here!

FayKorgasm Thu 01-Jan-15 13:10:08

My granny quite aptly called it Tom Cats Piss.

TheReluctantCountess Thu 01-Jan-15 13:13:41

I like TCP. Op, you are not alone.

parallax80 Thu 01-Jan-15 13:13:43

Love it! (But I also love the smell of Kreosote)

Puzzledandpissedoff Thu 01-Jan-15 13:14:04

Oh god, no; I can't believe they couldn't make it odourless, while still doing the same job - after all, other antiseptics don't stink like that

My mum used to call it "pensioners' perfume" ... come autumn and the coughs and colds season, and any bus journey round here involves a choking wall of the stuff sad

DD had a whitlow on her toe christmas day. No table salt (only rock salt in a grinder) to make a salt bath with but I remembered the bottle of tcp we bought whilst on holiday (long story). Bathed it in that. did the trick. Fab stuff!

DrCoconut Thu 01-Jan-15 13:39:49

I accept I will be in the minority but I love both the smell and taste of TCP.

CakeAndWineAreAFoodGroup Thu 01-Jan-15 14:22:22

TCP! Lovely smell.

Just don't apply it any time soon when going out as not everyone appreciates the fine pong. smile

Bettercallsaul1 Thu 01-Jan-15 14:32:22

I, too, love TCP and am never without a bottle in my bathroom cupboard! Definitely agree that it has strong nostalgic power: my mother regarded it as a general panacea for all childhood ills ( remember distinctly having it applied neat to burns and cuts! ) and I am now exactly the same. Appalling smell, but part of the security of childhood!

Madamecastafiore Thu 01-Jan-15 14:37:10

I did not have boyfriends growing up due to the fact that I shunned Impulse and Charlie and bathed in Dettol

scissy Thu 01-Jan-15 14:37:11

Good luck removing the stain... We had to replace a carpet in the end that had a lot of TCP spilt on it as nothing would remove it. Took over a week for the smell to go!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome Thu 01-Jan-15 14:41:11

TCP is gaaaawwwjus. Lagavulin, finest of the single malts, has a distinct hint of it.
