AIBU?

AIBU to be annoyed that the restaurant had sold out of dishes on their menu?

DH unexpectedly had a Christmas bonus, happy days Grin and wanted to take me out for dinner tonight, my choice of restaurant.
We're pretty spoilt where we live for places to eat out, and as I am quite fussy I looked up a few menus online before deciding what I wanted/where to go to eat.
When we ordered our meal, I was told that my main was no longer available. I chose an alternative, wasn't my first choice but was very nice. Desert was the reason I'd really chosen this restaurant, and when I ordered I was told that wasn't available either Sad.
The alternative was ok but I could have easily gone without.
I feel really bad that what was an unexpected (and we don't eat out very often so was really looking forward to!) evening out was kind of a bit of a disappointment.
Should I just suck it up and be glad that we went out? It was a rare treat to go out, disappointing food and blooming expensive!

Oh thank you Snape, you're so right. There was me thinking about my tummy, but yes, we did have a lovely night. Thanks for the perspective.

Annoyed? Really? Hmm

You've had a nice meal. Sometimes places run out of things - especially at this time of year.

I've asked MN to delete the thread, I'm just being a twat tonight.

I think this is not uncommon in really nice restaurants that us very fresh, local ingredients - once the very fresh, local ingredients have "sold out" then the item is off the menu.

In life sometimes we need to be adaptable.

Hope that you had a lovely evening, regardless :)

Perhaps if you'd ordered dessert they would've been more helpful. Not much call for deserts.

(I'm also being a twat Grin)

I feel your pain, OP! We have a restaurant near us that has one particular dish that I love and it's pretty much the only reason we go. We've been twice where they've sold out of the dish now and, as good as the replacement is, if I'd realised it wasn't available, we would probably have gone somewhere else.

Congrats to your DH!

I have never had that happen, everything has always been available. I wouldn't bother going there again.

Congraulations on the windfall.

Back when I worked in a restaurant, running out of the components for any dish would have been considered incredibly bad form. YANBU to have felt disappointed. A decent, well run restaurant should be able to cover its menu with ease. One course might possibly be excusable but two? Bad form!

Yanbu. I once went to a restaurant that we ate at frequently, specifically to order a dish that was new on their menu, only to be told it had sold out.

I may then have gotten a little tipsy and complained to them about it Blush. I did wake up the next day feeling like a bit of a twat.

Deserts!! Perhaps as well they had run out of those. Who wants a dry and sandy dessert???

Yanbu, they should apologise for being out twice!
