Just beginning to think what I might attempt to do next year.
I'm not joining a gym, don't drink, don't want to change my job.
So go on, fire my imagination! What are the weird and wonderful NY Resolutions from the Mumsnet collective memory?

Mine is to carry a care package (or more, depending on where I am going) with me when I go out that I can give to a homeless person, should I encounter one. I never know what to give normally, and these seem like such a sensible alternative to ready-made sandwiches etc. I wanted to be able to explain what I'm doing to my son to give him the idea of sharing his good fortune with others as he grows up.
There are lots of sites which give advice on what to include, such as soap, deodorant, baby wipes, packets of biscuits etc (a couple here: thehomelessguy.wordpress.com/gift-bags/ or www.upworthy.com/ive-often-wondered-how-i-can-personally-help-homeless-people-i-just-found-a-great-idea).

Mine is to encourage my DC to eat mince-based meals (cottage pie and bolognese). DS eats them at nursery, but apparently 'they aren't the same at home' Confused.

Less new year's resolution and more about where I want to be in a year: divorced, debt free and at least on the way to buying a new house! Happy new year everyone.

I am going to see if I can manage to drink Wine every single day Grin

Report
feebeecat · 30/12/2014 16:02

punt I may need to steal that one.
Dh reckons reason I get so hungover after more than my two glass limit is because I don't drink enough - maybe I need to pace myself. All year..Well, I could try it couldn't I? Grin

Mine is to learn the names of all the UK counties and county towns.

This year I decided to learn all the U.S. States, capitals and presidents. It's completely useless information yet very satisfying to memorise a long list!

Ooh ketchup, that's a good one! I like remembering pointless things, maybe I'll join you.
Mine is the boringly predictable lose weight (fed up of people thinking I'm pregnant again!) but I also want to start to retrain this year and start a new phase of life /career as my youngest goes to school.

No quirky ones these days, but when DS2 was 2 (November birthday)my resolution for the following year was to stop BF Grin. Managed it by the end of February and haven't done it from that day to this (he's 22Wink).

I put my daughters hair up everyday, but only ever brush mine, a pony tail is the most I do and thats only to keep it out of the way. I cant be bothered to put on make up or jewellery. Its all about the kids.
So my new years resolution is to do something (small) everyday. Either putting on eye shadow. Or putting in earrings. Something that is me making an effort for me.

Ooh, good OP, hadn't had a chance to think of mine yet, but here goes:

  • to be a better parent. I have two under 2.5 and I need to have more patience, be better organised, make healthier meals etc. just surviving at the end of my tether most days, and I want to spend 2015 enjoying my beautiful children

  • make time for me. Have allowed myself to get boring and have nothing to talk about but babies. I'm a sahm, and have gotten frumpy and boring. Need to get out and get a new hobby/interest. Something to get me excited.

Mine is to stop worrying! I am going to live in the now, and just hand my fate over to The Powers That Be and not let my anxiety get the better of me.

A friend recommended a book called The Power Of Now which sounds just what I am aiming for. I spend so much time rehearsing awkward conversations, worrying about my job security (which is shite but isn't everyones?) where I will live when I have to sell the house when youngest child is 18, all kinds of stuff.

I am quite sure that worrying about it just stresses me out and has no positive impact on the outcome at all.

Here's to a worry free 2015 people!!

Cook a new recipe once a week. Am a decent cook and used to love trying out new recipes but have got into a bit of a rut recently and determined to try to get out of it!

My 2014 resolution was to read fifty books, and I managed to finish the last of these two days ago. I've absolutely loved it - I've covered a big range from novels to non-fiction, and have found time for it during my three day commute (work part-time) and by watching less tv.

Mine is to organise our family photos/ videos into albums and DVDs . It's a big task as DS1 is 6 - so 6 years worth. I'm fed up of them just being on memory cards/ laptop/ iPads.

My resolution for 2015 is to spend more time rewarding myself for all the hard work i do, feel that i can do more to give myself regular perks, and to plan wisely so that i get everything done, so i dont feel guilty. Also to start to relearn spanish, was fluent once, just forgot so much because did not practice. Have a great New Years!!!

To build up larger breeding communities of locusts and brown crickets and keep them in ds's bathroom so I don't have to look at them.

I have three

1)To learn how to sew properly so I can make all the curtains for our newly refurbed house
2) To turn my husband's very old jumpers, knitted by his mother who is now deceased, into a patchwork blanket for him for next Christmas. He won't throw them away, which I understand and can't wear them, so I thought I'd try and reinvent them. I realise this isn't a resolution as such but I would love to be able to do this for him and I think he'd enjoy it so will have to schedule in the time and effort for this

3) Lose weight yawn This year I'll do it I don't have much to lose but I'm 40 in April and it's a personal goal for me.

Mine is to be more selfish(!)

I can feel myself diminishing as a person as I spend all my time running round after kids, managing the home, working, keeping stressed out friends happy, etc. etc.

More time for me time in 2015 and less guilt for saying no! Grin
