Feeling so shit and useless.

I've been an xmas temp for 5 weeks., for a company with the possibility of it turning permanent. So obviously I've worked hard, did 7 days in a row just because they asked. Today I found out that they offered 2 of the younger temp contracts 2 weeks ago, leaving me and another the same age as me out. So that basically means they took 2 weeks to find out who they wanted and to hell with me and another.

It took me 2 years just to get that job, now I have to sign on JSA again, waiting god knows how long to get another job.

I feel utterly shit and useless. They got the best out of me but I didnt even have a chance of get the job.

Not AIBU more a Fuck my life.

See it more like a lucky escape - do you really want to stay working for a company like this??

The right job for you is just around the corner, keep at it! Thanks

My depression has come back because I've been so tired working so much (I did 7 days in a row) and guilty for being away from DD so much.

I worked so damn hard for these people and it meant nothing.

They sound like wankers and you're better off out of there. I do know how you feel, but there really is a job worthy of you around the corner. Take some time, recharge your batteries and go out there to find it!

I worked for a company which took the piss big style this time last year. I covered shifts when people didn't turn up, I gave it my all. Then they cut my hours as I was so exhausted I made a mistake. I found a new job and it's the best thing that ever happened. The new company is a thousand times better and I'm appreciated a hell of a lot more (and paid a hell of a lot more too), so it does work out. Smile

I agree with LadySybil - lucky escape, although it never feels like that at the time. You should feel angry at the company for exploiting you, not useless. Hang in there and keep trying - and if you get a chance, do some charity volunteering. It's a great way of feeling you're making a difference and gaining a sense of being useful, even if you're not getting paid.

Unfortunately, its back on JSA and turning myself in knots to try and make sure my jobsearch is good enough. What a great new year.

New year = new opportunities!! Smile What about setting something up for yourself? Do you have a skill you could make some £££ out of? Think outside the box.

Flowers they sound like a horrid company, and I agree you had a lucky escape. Good luck with the jobsearch.

They probably only offered the perm roles to the younger temps as they knew they could get away with paying them less and treating them badly.

Flip it. You did a fantastic job, earned some extra money and gained some experience for your cv. They lose, you win. Hold your head up and get back out there, something better will turn up Smile

I ranted about them to my friend who works for the same company just a different branch. Bunch of devious bastards. I would have kept applying for jobs if I knew I didnt have a hope in hell of getting a role.

31 and my age is already is already counting against me in favour of younger people.

I have 2 more shifts to work for these people, 16 hours of my hard work.

Finish the contract, don't let them deny you of your pay. You will find something wonderful :)

I will finish it. I dont agree to something and not follow through. They can have the crappy uniform back on my last day. Might have to give the annoying bastard I work with a poke on my way out.

Hi OP. What hours can you work? I ask because the Jobcentre will put you through your HGV licence. I can assure you that you'll get all the hours you want, and the arseholes are mostly in the rear view mirror.

I can remember being a Christmas cover temp, with the dangling permanent job at the end.

They were utter utter bastards, and let me go slap bang between Christmas and new year -dead time in temp work.

Got a new admin job mid January for the NHS covering maternity and didn't look back.

Hope things turn out well for you, I cringe at the thought I might still be working at that place if life went a different way.

You have had a lucky escape. Working for a company and being undervalued and used is awful and would have had you tied in emotional knots of not wanting to quit, not wanting to stay.

I day this as someone on maternity leave from a bloody awful job (well the company actually) who made me work 23 days straight while I was 7 months preg! little do they know I am not going back when my mat pay ends

They had the hours 3 weeks ago when they signed the other 2 temps up (Both college boys under 21)

Cheap bastards. It really annoys me, because I was the only one who actually wanted to stay.

Well I feel super shit now. Out of all 6 temps they took on, I was the only one they didnt keep on.

So obviously I'm just a really shit employee who has absolutely no hope with any cheap of any kind. Shit with tills, money, people.

Just take me out the back and shot me, do everyone a favour.

Can you ask them why?
Can you ask them to be brutally honest about it so you can address anything for future jobs?
Were any of the other 5 temps mothers to youngsters?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/01/2015 15:31

3 of them maybe 4 were under 21, the other was a 29 yr old woman, childless just finished university. I was the only parent.

Is there anyone you deal with from your JSA area who could approach them officially and request some feedback to help you for future job searches? I'm sorry if this is not possible, but it seems you are not getting much helpful feedback yourself and perhaps someone in an official position regarding your search for employment, might be able to get more out of them?

I wish you all the best for getting a better job with far nicer people in the future Flowers

Ok, I work in a coffee shop and can completely understand where you are coming from, they have a way of speaking to me that makes me feel like I am useless and a complete waste of space, over the short period of time that I have worked there I have realised that there is no point in taking any of it personally. As far as I can tell, there is a central clique of core staff, and either you are in that clique or you are not. Turns out I have no desire to be in that clique anyway so I just go in and get paid my hours. I am still on probation and time will tell if they tell me to go before my probation is up. But even if they do, although I will miss the money, I do not care about their opinion, and neither must you. Just get out there and find something else, you will look good on your cv cos you've been working and because it was only temp it doesn't matter that it didn't work out.
