AIBU?

To think that you will all be able to help me think of an appropriate smartypants retort to this...

So, I am very happily pregnant with DC3. I know that I am very, very lucky.

DC2 is a very young baby so many people are horrified surprised that I am pregnant again so soon. And then we have the very rude 'you'll be hoping for a girl' comments.

I know it shouldn't but it really offends me. Almost implying that what we have isn't quite right. I wouldn't change our two boys for the world.

Has anyone managed a healthy retort to such a comment? If so, please tell me what you have said!

'Considering the position we conceived in, we're just hoping it isn't a puppy'

If you are fairly ballsy.

I read on here once that somebody's husband said 'we were hoping for a puppy'. I thought that was quite funny.

I guess I could say 'I'm not arsed either way as long as s/he is healthy ' but I am sick of being polite about it. Our neighbour still had her head in the pram admiring our DS2 when she said 'will you try for a girl?'

I find it really, really rude and offensive.

Hahahahaha! Daysies, that is really good! If only I could have vino, then I would definitely say that!

'yes, nice for me, but that would be selfish. they'd much rather have another brother!'

Or how about "yes of course we are hoping for a girl in ....fact if it's a boy we are sending it back" and keep a real straight face.

Well if you want to put them on the back foot, what daysies said Smile

'Why?' always did it for me. Smile

'Why?'

That is a good one, and seeings as I will be without vino, I reckon I could manage that.

I totallly didn't know about this boy/girl thing. It is so horrible. Almost everyone does it.

When I was pg with DS, people used to ask my 5yo DD if she wanted a brother or a sister. She would sigh and explain to them patiently

" You don't get to choose, you know. The baby is already a boy or a girl "

Sorry no witty replies but I'm having my second, have a ds already, and everyone keeps assuming I want a girl this time.

I get a lot of 'oh if it's a girl your family will be complete', 'be nice to have one of each'. Boss at work has even been telling people I'm hoping for a girl.

Yet when I correct them and say that actually I'd love another boy they get quite put out and tell me it shouldn't matter Shock

You'll need the straight face to go with it.

Or if you can do a sort of panic face, that'll work too. As in, 'Shit, if I don't produce a girl-child the entire human race will end? No way. Really, nobody told me that.'

Good luck. And do brace yourself, those conversations are always horrible and utterly rude and unnecessary. So just rude it up right back. Grin

I used to say 'we're hoping for one of those miniature ponies so we can make some money doing fairs in the summer'. No-one laughed but me .

Yes Pyjama I'm not even having a third and I'm being asked if I'm going to have another one so I have a chance for girl. FFS!

"Yeah, we're hoping for a girl and, if it isn't, we are going to get Dr Money involved. After all he had so much success with David Reimer..."

I had my DD then DS and I found that people were telling me my reproductive days were over because "I had the perfect family!"

I also had a well meaning (and unknowing) friend ask when I was going to give DD a sibling; this came a week after I haemorrhaged and miscarried at 12wk Sad

Some people engage their mouths before engaging their brains, sadly.

The thing that I find most annoying is that if this baby is a girl people will be all smug and chuffed for you, like that's all you wanted. Why do people think that you'd be sad of your children have the same type of genitals?

Ooh if I'm having a second boy and I get even the slightest whiff of a disappointed face from anyone or a suggestion that I'll have to try for a girl they'll be getting put right in their place.

I have two girls and also pregnant with DC3. When I get hoping for boy comments or one person who said 'I always feel so sorry for people who don't have one of each' I say actually I really want another girl. I actually don't care but it confuses them....Congratulations on your pregnancy. Will you find out the sex at the scan? I will find out in a month!!

You could always say it doesn't matter, you'll keep going until you have a girl and it'll be worth it for all the children's allowance you'll can collect followed by Xmas WinkXmas Grin. It probably won't keep them quiet for long but it would be worth it to see their reaction

You could say, "Well it's not up to me, it's dh's sperm that decides".

If I could time travel I would so go back and tell Henry VIII that too.

After my dd was born someone said to me "oh and you said you wanted a girl!"

I said no such thing and I was annoyed by the implication that I'd have been unhappy if I'd had a boy.

I've just had a baby girl, and already have a son. I'm soooooo sick of people telling me how clever I am to have one of each. I tend to reply "well, it seems to keep everyone else happy".

Sometimes I add that I'd actually have quite liked another boy (true). This tends to piss them right off Grin
