AIBU?

To want my friend to open her present now

I gave my friend her present this morning and am ridiculously excited about it. It's something which she was really impressed with and will really benefit her but she would never dream of buying for herself.

Anyway she's been amazing to me this year and I went and splashed out on it for her. We swapped gifts but she said she was saving hers until Christmas day :( I won't see her now until the New Year. Aibu to be a bit disappointed..I really wanted to see her expression when she opened it, and see her use the gift for the first time!

Well done for doing something lovely, would love to know what you've bought. What a shame you didn't arrange to see her just after Christmas to swap gifts.

Opening presents before christmas makes the little baby Santa cry.

YABU.

What did you get her?

Well I think YAB a bit U but then I don't like opening presents in front of people if it can be avoided. What if she has got it for herself already, what if she feels awful because her present to you isn't as good etc. - it could be awkward. If she wants to save it, maybe she's a bit like me and if you love her you will want her to be happy, rather than to open it in front of you for your gratification.

I know that might sound a bit harsh but it is her present!

Ahh I think it's lovely that you are excited about the gift you have got her. It's great when you feel you have gotten just the right gift for someone.

I had to give DH his birthday present early because I was just too excited to wait!

little baby Santa? Hmm

Is there room in that manger for another Baby?

OP some people don't like to open presents in front of other people. Or before the actual day. Do you feel that she'll forget the gift before you see her next? Confused

I wouldnt have wanted to open the present then either.

I like gathering all my presents in a pile on christmas morning and stroke them for a bit saying my precioussssss

Also, I'm shit at showing delight, even when I am delighted. So you would have been disappointed in my reaction.

Hence why I don't open presents in front of people...

Ah bless, think it's great you put so much effort into a friends present. I'd be the same. For some reason I've always opened family presents on christmas day, and friends whenever I got them. I think it stems from when I was at school and if you did get a gift from friends it'd be chocolate or sweets, not proper present IYSWIM.

Yes, tell us the gift!

Is it like one of the gifts the little baby Santa received from the three wise reindeer?

Well, when we were children we were told in no uncertain terms that if anyone was found looking through presents (wrapped or otherwise) before Christmas day there would be consequences. One year my sister was caught doing this and had to wait till Boxing Day to receive her presents. As a result, she will never open anything till Christmas day!

I don't think we can accurately determine whether or not YABU unless we know what the gift was OP, sorry Xmas Grin

It's a dress she tried on months ago while put shopping with me. She looks absolutely stunning in it but it's a colour a bit bolder than she normally ventures out in. Seriously, it took at least 15 years off her. I bought it because I knew she would never be brave enough to do it herself despite being a kickass personality so I was hoping she'd laugh remembering when she last tried it on or at least I could remind her...now half of the experience has been taken away!

Awwww I have to agree under those circumstances part of the pleasure would have been seeing her reaction

I'm sure the little baby Santa would have forgiven you

Also if you're not expecting to get many presents on the day you want to save all you can for then.

It's a Christmas present. Which you open on Christmas Day. YABU.

FWIW if I gave someone a Christmas present I'd be pissed off if they opened it immediately, rather than save for the actual day. Same with birthday presents. Surely you'd only open immediately if the day itself had already passed?
