But really hearing people say 'ARNA' instead of Anna just tips me over the edge and makes me lose my Christmas spirit.

I know that that's how her name is pronounced in the film, but i live in England and we say ANNA.

But it's not an American pronunciation (which seems to be the thing people get upset about, e.g. snowmayn) it's a Scandanavian/North European pronunciation, which is where the film is set.

She's not English, she's Scandinavian, and it's the Scandinavian pronunciation; it would be far odder if she pronounced her name with an English or American accent.

I call her Ahna, just the same as the German lady I know is An-drey-ah not Andrea as we would pronounce it. And I know a Mar-ee - the Mar is emphasised and rhymes with car, but it's spelt Marie. That one really surprised me, I didn't expect it to be spelled like that!

Anyway, isn't the pronounciation an integral part of someone's name? I can just see the AIBU- AIBU to refuse to answer to Anna when they know it's pronounced Ahna? And the replies- YANBU, your name is Arna and people should call you it, otherwise they may as well call you Fred!

My name would bug you then too. Same spelling, 2 different ways of saying it. If some says my name wrong on seeing it written down I don't have a problem, if someone knows how it's pronounced and still say it the other way it's irritating. Why is it so difficult for you to say ah-na? Why is it a problem?

And yes I do know she's not a real person so she won't care, but one day your dd might meet a girl called Anna pronounced the frozen way and it would be wrong of her to insist on using the wrong one.

I live in England and we say Anna. I do agree with you there op. When talking about somebody whose name is Anna, pronounced Anna. The lass from Frozen isn't English, nor is she American as other people have pointed out. The pronunciation is valid for her origin.

Is this one of those sneer at the Americans and the way they speak threads? We haven't had one for a while.

It's just 'Ahna' because of the film's setting, it's not like Disney have decided that's how you say Anna from now on.
