Just me?

It's almost as bad as being told to calm down! grin

RoundRobinSparkles Mon 22-Dec-14 11:49:10

Get a grip! fwinkfgrin

ghostyslovesheep Mon 22-Dec-14 11:49:19

I do think you need to though if you want to throttle people hmm

RoundRobinSparkles Mon 22-Dec-14 11:49:35

You knew that that was coming, right?! fsmile

U2TheEdge Mon 22-Dec-14 11:52:39

Adds more people to my throttle spread sheet!

catsofa Mon 22-Dec-14 11:54:29

I often want to throttle both the OPs and the "get a grip" replies.

Fairenuff Mon 22-Dec-14 11:55:17

Calm down OP

fgrin

U2TheEdge Mon 22-Dec-14 11:58:06

ahhh

But it is very condescending isn't it?

My husband once told me to calm down; it was the last time he ever uttered those words again.

SirChenjin Mon 22-Dec-14 11:58:59

Gosh - you sound very entitled

Hands OP a grip

grin

U2TheEdge Mon 22-Dec-14 11:59:32

Now I just need someone to call me grabby!

wowfudge Mon 22-Dec-14 12:21:27

It's the completely dismissive 'meh' which gets my goat. It so often is used a very condescending way. <Puts tin hat on in readiness>

Whichusername Mon 22-Dec-14 14:51:49

Get a grip and calm down dear

notagainffffffffs Mon 22-Dec-14 15:00:47

Yabu. And entitled. [Grin]

KnittingChristmasJumpers Mon 22-Dec-14 15:22:58

You can't have all the grips OP - stop being so grabby. grin

Lottapianos Mon 22-Dec-14 15:26:02

Oh there's some right comic geniuses on this thread, eh? hmm

I feel your pain OP. It's insensitive and thoughtless and makes the writer sound like a muppet. It means 'I don't care about this/can't wrap my little brain around your problem, so just shush and go away now'. If people genuinely don't have anything better to offer, I think they should just say nothing.

Fanfeckintastic Mon 22-Dec-14 15:30:37

Oh the worst are the ones who go into a big "hilarious" spiel about it...

OP I think you need to go to the grip shop and buy yourself a grip.

Here, have a grip!

Oh look what I found OP, a grip for you.

Ugh, not funny! Just rude and band wagony!

Fallingovercliffs Mon 22-Dec-14 15:40:41

'Hands OP a grip' was probably funny ten years ago when some original bright spark thought of it. But <*newsflash*> it isn't anymore.

Fanfeckintastic Mon 22-Dec-14 15:43:19

It's the equivalent of the 90s "NOT" humour.

Oh yeah OP, you're being completely reasonable... NOT!

Also, everything is bloody precious!

Sternin Mon 22-Dec-14 15:51:18

No, and I want a throttle spreadsheet.

silveroldie2 Mon 22-Dec-14 16:07:09

Do you prefer get a life?

Clawdy Mon 22-Dec-14 16:15:45

I love "Love Actually" but I hate the bit where Liam Neeson gets choked talking about his dead wife, and Emma T.touches his arm and says softly "Get a grip...."

U2TheEdge Mon 22-Dec-14 16:32:38

Oh I hate get a life.

And don't get me started on the whole.. is that all you have to worry about? crap.

You know, like if someone has a petty gripe they must lead a blessed life and can't possibly have any real troubles.

ILovePud Mon 22-Dec-14 17:29:20

I am loving the idea of a throttle spread sheet! It reminds me of when I was about 8 and had a chart up in my room, titled 'Pud's enemy chart' which was a bar chart of everyone in my class to which I would add to every time someone crossed me. I remember having to take it down very quickly one day when someone from school called in unexpectedly to see my hamster! The shame.
