To think my cat is trying to tell me something?

I have four cats. The most recent arrival, Rolo, was a stray who found his way through the catflap about a year ago and never left.

For the past few weeks, Rolo has been leaving me severed animal heads around the house. Sometimes he's obviously bought them in and played with them as well while I've been at work.

I've been trying to think of a reason why he's just leaving the heads - I've had lots of cats but never had one that just left heads! I had one who ate her prey whole right in front of me, and another who just left the gall bladder, but this is new to me.

I've come up with the following reasons:

1. He's reliving a past life as a axe murderer or guillotine operator.
2. He just likes collecting severed heads.
3. He's watched The Godfather too many times (thankfully none of the heads have been in our bed so far!)

Does anyone have any other ideas about what he's trying to tell me? Maybe when I get the message he'll stop!

He's a lovely boy really, he was in a bad way when he moved in but is turning into a gorgeous, glossy furred fusspot now!

We've always had at least three cats and in our last house we had five. It was surrounded by fields and hedgerows and all five cats brought in mice, rats, baby rabbits and rats. They invariably ate everything except the heads and tails. So in the morning we'd come down to the cat version of Henry VIII/the French Revolution.
They left the heads because the skulls were a bit too hard to crunch and didn't have much meat on. The tails were just scaly, so they were played with then left too. Pretty awful, but you get used to it.

Are the heads intact? I have no idea how my cat does it (nor do I want to know) but my cat leaves just the faces...

My cat only tries to catch the odd butterfly. After reading this thread I'm really grateful. (And no she never managed it!)

my cat went on a mass murdering spree of mice up to five a day :(

then my friend pointed out that ds had just started crawling and he was teaching him to hunt

my cat is not very intelligent and after about 6 weeks he stopped

he brings in the odd mouse (alive) and has picked up a dead rat i am sure he did not kill it thing was huge

They always leave the heads, no matter what the deceased. Not tasty I believe.

I've had over 15 cats (used to foster but was too heartbreaking giving them up). I've had one that used to bring in worms for my kitten to play with, one that used to bring in twigs and leaves (not too bright!), one that would eat the whole mouse in front of me (didn't chew at all, just swallowed whole), one that had no teeth so used to bring in slightly soggy, very annoyed but fully live prey that I'd then need to catch and release. I've also found a few stray organs over the years, I'm guessing they were mostly gall bladders.

My other current cats are too fat and lazy to catch their own, but I did see one of them playing with one of the severed heads!

But, I've never had one that just leaves the heads! I guess it's true that every cat is completely different!

Why gall bladders?

Our second cat eats most of what he catches but I've found various bits of what looks like mouse intestines...maybe it's the gallbladder, is there is reason they won't consume it?

Mine brings me the whole, live creature, then releases it into the house. He's trying to teach me how to hunt.

So that's a whole heap of fun.

Apparently they feel sorry for you and try to hunt because you're obviously useless at it... So trying to feed you is kind of sweet.
