A friend just dropped off a quilt coved that her DS has outgrown - one of my DS's fav cartoons at the mo - would you give this to DS(3) for Xmas?

Yes, if I thought he would like it.

Why?? If it makes her happy?

Not scabby. I've given dd second hand stuff for Xmas before.

Of course as long as it's in decent condition and you've washed it.

He's 3?

Yes of course. He's unlikely to know that you didn't buy it and to be honest, he shouldn't really mind at that age either way.

The most important thing will be that he's excited to open it.

Is scabby a regional word?

I have given my DC second hand charity shop finds as xmas gifts because i know they would love them. I dont see a problem. Also at 3 he is unlikely to even realise it is second hand. He will just be thrilled to see his favourite character.

I'd give it with no hesitation.

I'd give it but I would tell him it was a present from her, not me.

Not only would I give it as a present, but if I had another duvet and pillow I'd put it on them and attempt a switch in the night (but then my dc sleep very heavily) Grin

my dd is having a second hand bear from Ebay for Christmas (its the identical twin sister to her much loved 8 year old bear) I have no doubt it will be the present she will love the most!

Not at all 'scabby' my kids are getting quite a bit of second hand stuff for Christmas this year and don't mind at all. Just make sure its washed which unless your friend is odd it will be anyway.

I always buy job lot second hand figures for DS for Christmas. They're £15 a toy otherwise, and he could get 2 toys, but for £30 he gets almost 30 toys, and they'll only end up scratched in seconds anyway, so what's the difference? I still individually wrap

Ds had a 2nd hand toy, it was a toy that is selling for hundreds new but preowned it was a bargin.
It meant he had more of the budget left for other things.

My neighbour's dd is 13 and gave us lots of her old toys recently. I didn't want my dc to just get stuff so so I packed it away and it's going to be Christmas presents. Dc won't know it's not new and will love it all. One gift is a big duplo horse stable thing - they'll love it. Teens would probably be more picky!

That would be amazing if you could switch whist he was asleep can you imagine his face when he wakes up??

I've given second hand stuff before.

Love the idea of switching it when he is asleep!

Probably a regional word crispy Grin

Will put it in the washing machine now! (Not because my friend isn't clean - because my boy has Eczma & I have to use a certain detergent) Smile

Just felt a bit cheap because she wouldn't take any money for it.

I don't dare go anywhere near him when asleep! I swear I can wake him by the power of thought! So a swap is off the cards.

Could you switch it in the day without him noticing so it's on when he goes to bed Christmas day night?

Not heard scabby in ages. Used to be a common term in NZ when I was young, back in the 70s 80s.

Give the cover as a present. He's 3 and won't give a toss.
