To be miffed that he won't stop somewhere on the way home?

Ok I admit it, I am VERY grumpy today. I worked a night shift last night after being up from a stupid hour of the morning after agreeing to deal with ds overnight so I could have a lie-in in preparation for my night shift, then OH deciding to agree to an SOS to go into work (he could have refused quite easily) I also haven't slept very well today, woke after 4 hours full of snot, unable to breathe and haven't been able to get back to sleep. I am not relishing the thought of my night shift tonight!!!!!

Now, OH is on his way home and has a 1 1/2 hour car journey home with 2 kids in tow. I've asked him to stop at some kind of food establishment on the way as I'm feel too rough to cook. I haven't asked him to detour, it's on the road he has to drive along to get home and he has said no, I need to cook as he wants to get home. It's a drive-thru ffs.

I think I may still be annoyed about yesterday's shennanigans. I was up continually throughout the night with ds, got made to get out of bed as OH decided to go into work, spent all afternoon getting the car MOT'd (having to try my hand at mechanics as a repair was needed to get through re-test....IT PASSED!) ds asked for a bath at 4.30pm but OH wanted to sit down as he hasn't 'for days' so I asked OH to cook so I ate properly before work, I got a fucking ready meal.

AIBU to expect him to just stop at the drive-thru and take 10 minutes out of his schedule so I can try and relax ready for work? Or am I being a lazy mardy arse that should just get off my backside and cook?

Oh and me cooking would involve me having to do all the washing up that he didn't bother to do last night whilst I was working my arse off (I am an A&E nurse and last night was HORRENDOUS!!)

Bollocks to that!

I would tell him in no uncertain terms that I'm not cooking. He can stop off, ring a takeout or cook something himself.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

KingJoffreysHasABigWhiteBeard Sat 20-Dec-14 16:03:37

No, he's a twat.

I work night's, it's a killer.

Don't cook.

effinandjeffin Sat 20-Dec-14 16:06:26

Yeah just don't cook. Can't you order a takeaway pizza or something?

mistymorningmemories Sat 20-Dec-14 16:09:10

YANBU. If he had to go to A&E I would assume he would prefer whoever was treating him not to be sleep deprived! If you had agreed on getting up early so that you could sleep later he should have stuck to that. He sounds a bit like he will only do something as long as it doesn't inconvenience him.

I know the kids will need to eat too. God I'm pissed off!!! Catch 22.

70isaLimitNotaTarget Sat 20-Dec-14 16:14:00

shock surely he knows (even if you don't discuss work he'd see on the news) that A&E would be Hell on Earth at this time of year.
What a turd angry he's not even trying to pull his weight.

QTPie Sat 20-Dec-14 16:16:27

Have you got bread and beans and/or cheese in the house? Let him cook beans/cheese on toast when he gets back. You don't have to cook.

HappenstanceMarmite Sat 20-Dec-14 16:18:52

YADNBU. LTB fblush

FTRsGotAShinyNewNN Sat 20-Dec-14 16:25:13

Yanbu he's being a dick, when he gets home and asks what's to eat you can tell him to figure it out for himself and that you told him you were too tired to cook. Hope you have a better shift tonight brewthanks

Call him or text to say this clearly. If there is no food he will have to organise pizza won't he?

Is he usually a bossy bastard?

ihatethecold Sat 20-Dec-14 16:31:00

That's really rotten.
He sounds like a petulant child.

batgirl1984 Sat 20-Dec-14 16:34:29

I quite often do a 2 hour drive with 2 kids. They are 1 and 3. If they are both sleeping there is no way I would consider stopping. Would rather have toast or freezer food for tea. Although I wouldn't take kindly to being told that I 'have to cook'.

magpieginglebells Sat 20-Dec-14 16:44:23

Batgirl- if he goes through the drive through then no one has to get out.

Don't cook OP, let him sort everyone's tea out.

mumofthemonsters808 Sat 20-Dec-14 16:50:21

What an awkward bastard, I think I might be referring to my DH's who is also uncoperative when a million and one things needs doing.

VitalStollenFix Sat 20-Dec-14 16:52:37

do not cook for him.

He is an absolute arse.

You'll have to cook.

What'd his last slave die of?

He is really taking the piss. Is doing his fair share in the family beneath him or something?

Inertia Sat 20-Dec-14 16:54:30

He's being spectacularly awkward.

Probably wants you to cook so he doesn't have to clear up any mess.

Can you get a pizza delivery ? Jacket potatoes in the oven?

Madamecastafiore Sat 20-Dec-14 16:57:24

Ring a take away that delivers but don't order him any. Selfish arse!

prettywhiteguitar Sat 20-Dec-14 16:57:46

Can you go out early to work, to eat out somewhere ?

Screw him let him feed the kids

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted Sat 20-Dec-14 16:58:02

You've told him that you're feeling too rough to cook, so don't cook. He can sort himself and the kids out when he gets back.

You need to cook as he wants to get home? Fuck him! Is he deaf as well and selfish and stupid?

I would not be cooking for him, I'd be telling him once he's home that he's an unhelpful bloody twat.

RJnomore Sat 20-Dec-14 17:00:36

He's being a complete arse but on a pragmatic note, just will deliver and you can order online

Doesn't solve your arse problem but it's easier to plot revenge on a full stomach.

Hope you feel better soon, god knows how you lot manage at work on nights like last night, hats off to you.

MrsTerryPratchett Sat 20-Dec-14 17:01:04

Is there anything the kids like and he HATES? Just saying.

crumblebumblebee Sat 20-Dec-14 17:05:26

He's a complete and utter shit. Do not cook for him! Rest and take it easy.

susiedaisy Sat 20-Dec-14 17:09:36

Cook beans on toast with cheese that's a hot quick meal if he doesn't like it tough titties!!

He is being an awkward twat. A night shift in a&e is exhausting I can't believe He won't get a drive through and hadn't bothered to wash up last nights stuff
