ebay item won for 99p ( worth £500) seller has immediately re-listed it ???

Hi

I just won an expensive electrical item on ebay on "buy it now" for 99p

I messaged the seller saying

" I won this item , Did you intend to put this on buy it now ??"

Three rapid fire replies

a) "oops , error our end"
b) "Do you want to make me an offer"
c) "ive another electrical thing (related to first) you can buy ??"


and the item has been re-listed it as auction, 99p start price.

I did not intend to only pay 99p for this item. that just seems unfair. though I would be within my rights as regards ebay "rules".

AIBU to be pissed off that I flagged up the mistake ( before any one else could "get in") and before Ive even had a chance to to talk to the seller its been relisted. ????

99p start price is pretty normal for sellers. I can't see they've done anything wrong. If anything it backs up the reply the BIN was a mistake.

99p is a usual starting point for auction but I bought it for 99p

it was their mistake for listing it incorrectly.

I actually think if you had a look into it, they'd be breaking eBay rules here! (I am not the eBay police however, so not 100%) and unless you agree to cancel the transaction, they can't re-list it. YNBU to think they maybe should have tried to agree a price with you before just trying to sell it again.

I think they are breaking ebay rules. I paid the price they asked.

Im not going to hold them to it but a few minutes "grace" before it was re-listed would have been polite.

That's a good point. yes they made a mistake but you bought it. I think eBay have rules about it. Not sure what they do to enforce them.

Wonder what way eBay would find it in this case. Say you bought it you're entitled to it or say no it was clearly a mistake

eBay does have common sense and will accept the seller made a genuine mistake in this case so you will not be getting your item for 99p. Put yourself in their place. No one would put an item on buy for now for 99p so it is obviously a mistake.

Look at the situation on Amazon the other day though when an error set thousands of things at 1p

it's been admitted it was a mistake yet Amazon have honoured all those sales even though it was clearly a mistake

She isn't saying she wants the item for 99p. She wanted a chance to make an agreement for a reasonable price before it was relisted, seeing as she technically purchased it.

i never intended to force a 99p sale,rather I thought I could prevent anyone else doping that. and maybe the seller would then give me the chance to get a "fair" BIN

I think you need to accept it was a mistake... And why on earth do you expect them to wait before re-listing it? You don't get first bagsies it's an auction.

That was a different situation as when the error was spotted the orders had already been "fulfilled by Amazon". And the fault was not Amazon's.

The seller has made a mistake. Technically they should honour the sale and certainly not rub salt in by immediately re-listing. Whether I would take a £499 loss on an item is debatable! You are in the right and they are in the wrong, although I don't think I would insist on a small business (if of course they are one) taking such a hit.
And re Amazon - of course it's the small businesses who have taken the losses for the 1p glitch recently not Amazon itself.

Either you hold them to the rules (which I doubt ebay will enforce) or you accept their perfectly reasonable relisting immediately. It is perfectly reasonable, they don't owe you any reward or discussion for changing it.

I dont expect to get first "bagsies", I just think it is a bit unfair that I alerted the seller and then im basically ignored.

Im not expecting chocolates and flowers just maybe 2 miutes to consider their kind offer of "make me an offer" before they relisted the item .

You do if you've just won the item, which the OP already had done with her BIN bid. By the eBay rules, it belongs to her now, they can't just decide to sell it again without even speaking to her.

She says she wouldn't have held them to that price and she realised it was a mistake but they didn't even give her the chance to offer a fair price before they re-listed it, which is why she's unhappy with them.

If it was listed as Buy it Now the seller can cancel transactions, there is an option to do so. Under certain circumstances it may count as a "defect" against the sellers account but you will probably find that he is well within his rights to correct a mistake that he made with the listing.

It has been relisted, now you can bid on it if you want it. You say it's worth £500, so I think YABU to expect much of a dialogue, though I would have apologised for the mistake and thanked you for flagging it up.

It was kind of you to do it be not expect it for 99p.
But what's the problem with them Relisting? They can still end it if you come to an agreement.
They presumably think it'll sell best before Xmas. They're running out of time.
For all they know, they could piss about with you all weekend trying to force the price low with threats of "you need to honour it", or just negotiate politely but not find an agreement. All wasted time.
So just relist, and carry on talking to you. No bother.

I've just had some pretty negative eBay experiences (and occasional lovely people like you!) so I just wouldn't rely on anyone.
