To expect the delivery driver to check he's got the right address before filling an oil tank up with 1000 litres of heating oil...

Only 6 houses where we live, no gas supply and 2 of us have oil fired central heating. The first and last house on the lane.

We have just started using a different (local) company. Our delivery should have arrived Saturday, but got a call around lunchtime to say driver was over his hours, would be here Monday morning first thing. Bit miffed but things happen.

The instruction was that the gates to the garden and the oil tank would be left open since there wouldn't be anyone in (this is normal practice).

Have just arrived home to one of the neighbours waiting to tell me that the driver has filled his tank up with oil! He came home just as he had finished.

How the fuck do you not check you've got the right address before filling a tank with over £400 worth of oil!

Was it the correct type of oil that they put into the neighbours tank ? if it's not , it will bugger up their boiler, they need to stop their system and get it sorted ASAP

Is the fuel company going to let the man have the 1000L free or fill your tank up for nothing? They can hardly syphon it out of his and transfer it to yours!

We just paid £212 for 500 litres today.

I think they can take it out of your neighbours tanks and transfer it.

Fortunately for the company my neighbour is due a delivery (another company) this coming Friday and has agreed to fill our tank up.

The not so good news for them is that we will probably run out before then so they will have to bring me some barrels to tide me through which I'm not prepared to pay for.

Gracious me! Everyone seems to be getting very cheap oil!! I always ring round about six different companies and they're always within £10 or so of each other. I phoned in our order this morning and it was £270 for the 500 litres. It's with Butler. They're delivering on Thursday. "Normal For Norfolk" perhaps ??

Boilerjuice can often do really great reductions because they try to arrange several deliveries in the same area at the same time so that it works out cheaper for everybody.

Butler quoted me 51p this morning. Watson Fuels quoted 41p.

I always use boilerjuice. Last time it was £222 for 500 litres. Where I live there is no gas to our village or surrounding villages so maybe that's why it's cheaper? I also always order express 5 so it come with in a few days if we waited 2 weeks it would be even less.

We gave up on butler oil , there was a problem with practically every delivery, usually the tanker breaking down but they never rang us to say our delivery would be delayed. Used callow oils ever since and had excellent service, will be paying 43p a litre for kerosine this week (1000 ltrs)

I too live in a small village with no gas (and none in surrounding villages either) I phoned this morning and just had a call back to say it'll be here tomorrow.
I can't go into a group delivery arrangement as I might not need a top-up when the others do. We only use oil in the winter. In the summer it's all turned off and we use the electric shower. All our taps run cold in summer!
I feel diddled now!
By the way, has anyone used Goff? We had them a few times, but noticed that our indicator only went up 4 points instead of five after 500L were delivered. The chap said our indicator was faulty, but it goes up 5 points with other firms. We don't have Goff any more.

I just had a delivery from boiler juice this morning 500 litres for £215. The guy did knock to check the address, which funnily enough I've never had a driver do before.......he said he liked to check the address as he has filled up the wrong tank in the past.

By the way does anyone know if a valve shuts off the tank if it's full and the delivery man is still pumping it in? (I mean like the fuel inlet of a car, which shuts off when the petrol reaches the top) Our tank has a capacity of 1200L and I have nightmares about it pouring over the side and running all over the garden! If your neighbour, Minion, had 1000L delivered unasked-for, and his tank had quite a bit in it already, would it have overflowed?

Ours is a really old tank and it is just a metal tank with a lid, it has a pipe running next to it with a ball that goes down as the oil is used! its a fun guessing game for when we need to top up and how long it will last. Some of the newer tanks might have a shut off valve but I'm not convinced mine would have.

We just got 900L for less than 400 pounds.

We are part of a huge buying group here in the south west and get the best price possible. The price of oil is plummetting. The latest order placed by the group was just over 41.9p/litre and I bet it would be even cheaper now.

Have a look round the net and I bet you'll find something similar in your area.

The tank doesn't have a cut off, but the oil delivery pipe does - like a petrol pump and any hald decent driver will stand and watch the level. HE wouldn't leep his job long if he was continually spilling oil over customers' gardens.

I use Goff most of the time. I ring round a few of the suppliers still and Goff are very good at price matching. There must be some automatic shut off valve as I've over ordered before without overspill- they just correct my bill.
