AIBU?

To think my DH is being ridiculous?

He's just announced he's going to give me a Christmas card.

Apparently I am a miserable old goat as I refuse to give him one. He did say that in an affectionate way, honest...

My face looked like this --> Shock

We live in the same house, why on earth he feels the need to give me a card is beyond me! What a waste of paper, and money...and this year we've cut right back on on cards as it was getting out of hand, so it feels a little hypocritical of him to give me one when we took a joint decision not to send as many this year!

Bit miserable of you, yes.

I got one for my DH. It's our first Christmas married and I wanted to get one with 'husband' on it so I did. He eye rolled a little because he's probably like you but do I care?! Nah

I'd love it if I got a card saying something nice from my DH. I'd cherish it.

Yabu.

YANBU. I think giving Christmas cards to people you live with is bizarre.

Unless you write something meaningful inside. Like, at least a few sentences. Something worth saving.

Gosh is it bizarre? I always get DP a Christmas card from me and our 2 year old separately. It tends to be a photo one with photos inside too and we keep them and they go into my son's special memories book thing so he can see then when he is older.

Yabu and miserable. It will be nice to receive a card with a few special words from each other.

YANBU. But I'm not a cardy person.
In fact, DH used to get me cards for everything, all the time and I always forgot/couldn't be arsed.

I always swap cards with DH, he writes the most amazingly beautiful, sentimental words in them. I love them and keep them all, I'd be so upset if we stopped!

yanbu I hate cards (tatty, messy, expensive, fire hazards) & I think giving Christmas cards to people who live with you is insane ... but ... some people (families) are card obsessed.

My husband's family send cards for everything (Dear Darling Special Son Congratulations on your Magnificent Poo etc). It's like people who put jelly in trifle vs everyone else ... you'll never make them understand how wrong they are. Unfortunately.

YABU we always swap cards and keep them. Would be very upset not to get a card from DH

YANBU at all IMO.

DP's family all give each other cards for everything and it drives me nuts.
It costs a fortune because there is loads of them and it is such a waste of paper.

Shock he called you old? Grin

I don't give anyone cards, I'm also a miserable goat and don't see the point. I have to tell people not to bother sending me them too, they'll only end up in the recycling bin and I'd rather they didn't waste trees their money.

I get its about showing someone you're thinking of them, but anyone I actually want to think about me have my phone number and I'd prefer a text.

YANBU

If I received a card off The BF I would assume he had had a brain transplant, and vice versa in regards to me.

My mum loves making and sending cards. I am okay with that. Still regard it as a bit pointless but it makes her happy.

My DH 'draws' our animals made out of kisses in my cards and writes lovely things.

Last year he even 'drew' my favourite cat who'd died the week before wishing me Merry Christmas from heaven.

the point of Christmas cards it to wish the people YOU WON'T SEE a Merry Christmas....

My mum always gave us a Christmas card each from her and Dad, and she and Dad also exchanged them. I've done the same in my family. It's no different to giving birthday cards, IMO - do you not give your DH a birthday card either?

YANBU

Very strange to exchange Christmas cards with partners IMO. What a waste of money.

Dh and I do birthday cards but not Christmas.

This thread made me laugh as my dps after 40 years of marriage have suddenly started having this argument. My mum has given us cards as long as I can remember and my dad now says it's a waste of money!

My DH always does this as well - I think it's weird - I always forget and then have to give him a standard one out of a multipack and he has carefully bought an individual one for me Blush

Aww Laurie my Mum has given me loads of cards over the years with drawings of us and the animals inside. They are brilliant and I have kept them. I know when she eventually passes I will love looking at them and remembering all the happy occasions. You just dont get that with texts. There is something about a hand-written sentiment that is lovely.

My ExH used to make a ridiculous fuss about bloody Christmas cards and all he'd write in it was 'love from Sid' anyway. Hardly laureate stuff.

We bought large-ish cards the first year we were married, and we reuse them every year, writing a little note with the date. I like it, and it is lovely to look back at previous years, but wouldn't do new cards each year I don't think.
So I'm totally on the fence Confused
