Maybe its where I work, but people seem to delight in gorging on crap and as they eat it they say diet starts in Jan. Seems idiotic to me

And in what way is that affecting you?

YABU- live and let live.

You seem bizarrely obsessed with other people's dietary choices right now. Still, better they "grorge" themselves on crap than inadequately prepared guacamole, eh?

It rather makes sense to me. Rather than eating crap all year around having a little splurge once a year in December then reigning yourself in a bit in January and losing the few extra pounds you've gained seems quite sensible and a way of avoiding long term weight gain while still getting to enjoy yourself a little bit.

If you're that joyless and dried up you can't even see the pleasure in occasionally enjoying food and drink then I really feel sorry for you.

Putting on a few pounds in December and then losing them in January isn't going to kill anybody.

By the way. I bet your colleagues think you're a barrel of laughs.

I'm guessing you have a carrot and some lettuce for Christmas dinner then OP? Hmm

I have a great time at Christmas, and enjoy some extra treats, or things we don't have at any other time of year - but I don't ever feel as if I have gorged myself. I don't think we eat a lot more than we eat normally - and we still have a wonderful time.

Tbh, I don't want to stuff myself silly, to the point of feeling sick/ bloated.

I wonder how many people are having a great Christmas without overindulging hugely, and how many are eating mountains of food. I know we see a lot of supermarket trolleys piled high with food - but I suspect some of that is down to people catering for lots of extra people (so that huge trolley-full is not just one family's shopping), and I suspect there is more waste than normal too.

Well I've been gorging myself for the past 11 years. I've finally decided that January is when I'm going to join Weight Watchers and start to lose the 7 stone that I've accumulated since dd1 was born.

But I've got 3 week intil the 1st January and boy am I going to enjoy my food and booze until then!

I'm not sure why you're so bothered by other people's eating habits? Unless they happen to be affecting you in some way?

It's natural. Eating a lot in the midwinter is a biological imperative! Check out Squirrell, at a park near you.

it is daft, and also very boring. If they moved around a bit more and made intelligent food choices, they could still enjoy their Christmas treats.

I know I will, and I won't get fat. Most normal people won't either. But those who seriously guzzle and swill will pork up.

self-control? No, scammy diets seem more in favour. Fools and money...

YABU I'm on Weightwatchers now but it's not going to stop me eating/drinking whatever I want. Calorie counting over Christmas is a pointless exercise, enjoy it! What's the other option? To be unbearably smug that you've managed to ration yourself to just one Pig in a blanket with a side of Cranberry sauce? Fuck that! It's once a year & Boxing Day I shall be producing my very own Mr Hanky...he's going to weigh at least a couple of lbs so all will be good.

But your posts suggest that you don't have much of a life as all you want to do is criticise the choices of others (link to guacamole)

Did you really just insinuate that anyone overweight is not normal .,,,

I agree OP. Find it amazing people can actually gain weight just in a week surrounding Christmas. I don't have the capacity to eat any more at this time of year, so I don't...

No you called them idiots. Then you implied through your comments that you life choices were better than theirs are (rather than just different).

It might be helpful if you define this "crap" that people are alleging gorging themselves with. Only some of us manage to enjoy all sorts of little delicacies at Christmas without ever finding the need to go on crazy diets.

Im not going to gorge this year (I haven't really much in recent years either) and sometimes I wish I did. Id like to go to lots of Christmas parties and feasts, but they just dont happen - no job, no friends and family living a good hours drive away (which I will be doing on Christmas and coming back Boxing day). Also Im not a big fan of Christmas dinner.

Hopefully next year I will be a lot thinner anyway and I might eat full chocolate oranges in one sitting or lots of yule log etc because (to me) it wont matter. I would feel very deflated if I put on more weight again over these next 2-3 weeks. Especially when my social calendar isn't exactly full.

Although if others want to eat "just because its Christmas" then thats up to them. If others are like me and carry on trying to watch their weight and food intake most of December then thats fine too. I certainly wont be judging them for it.

YANBU OP. I don't enjoy eating so much I feel sick. You can enjoy Christmas without eating enough food for three people.

Better that than eating like a maniac all year, isn't it? oops hypocritical post
