A colleague of dh recently got married. I can cope with his wife in very small doses.

She is one of my Whatsapp contacts. I noticed a few days ago that she had posted "3 more sleeps until my birthday yay" and party emoticon. So each day there has been a count down and obviously tomorrow is her birthday as at today she has only "one more sleep" .........

FFS - she is 36 years old!!!!!!!!!!!! angry

Feel free to tell her to Grow Up. I suspect she will reply telling you that you are a miserable sod.

WeirdCatLady Thu 11-Dec-14 14:09:55

P.S. 28 sleeps til my birthday

Live and let live

VitalStollenFix Thu 11-Dec-14 14:10:59

delete her?

JellyDiamonds Thu 11-Dec-14 14:12:06

YANBU, I hate grown adults who still acts like kids, and I really hate this whole however many "sleeps" to something malarkey.

Once your past 21 unless they are milestones I.e 30,40,50 etc then they cease to be important.

Fullpleatherjacket Thu 11-Dec-14 14:12:24

If she winds you up, de-contact (or whatever the terminology is) her.

Job done.

NorwaySpruce Thu 11-Dec-14 14:12:30

Do you absolutely need to have your husband's collegue's wife as a contact?

She might be under the entirely reasonable impression that people on her contact list are her friends, and actually like and want to engage with her.

browneyedgirl86 Thu 11-Dec-14 14:14:56

Maybe she's doing something special for her Birthday?

I think Yabu. A birthday is still a special occasion. Although I would never do what she has done. Yanbu for hating the phrase "x more sleeps" I hate that phrase!!!!

OneDayWhenIGrowUp Thu 11-Dec-14 14:15:40

Just don't look at her WhatsApp status? You actually have to look at those to check them, they don't just pop up randomly. So you are deliberately looking her up each day in order to wind yourself up and feel smug that you're more grown up than her.

You should grow up wink

QuinnTwinny Thu 11-Dec-14 14:17:44

I personally can't stand nonsense like that. Just last night I unfriended an old school friend on Facebook because I am sick to my back teeth of her daily (for the past month) counting down the days to Christmas, the daily Christmas tree picture and daily list of every single item she has bought her four year old. I find that kind of behaviour so strange!

elQuintoConyoIKNOWHIM Thu 11-Dec-14 14:22:39

No, OneDayWhenIGrowUp YOU shoukd grow up!

Oh, err...

fgrin

My Dad is visiting from abroad on Saturday and has been sending me Whatsapp messages all week of "5 sleeps... 4 sleeps... only 2 sleeps..." etc. I have sent him a message everyday telling him what DS got in his advent calendar (that he sent DS). We are a happy, excited family.

But I wouldn't go around blabbing it to other people.

Perhaps she is meeting Johny Depp on her birthday - now THAT I'd put all over Facebook winkgrin

I have to say I can't really understand adults getting all excited about their birthdays. Or expecting other people to get all caught up in the excitement and telling them how many 'sleeps' it is until said birthday.
I would just ignore her.

TheBigBumTheory Thu 11-Dec-14 14:31:09

I love my birthday. I'm not on social media though-except here. I do like people who are enthusiastic and enjoy life. Looking forward to things is fun at any age. Certainly better than expecting the worst and moaning about getting older.

OP, what can a grown up be legitimately excited about on social media, in your opinion?

TheBigBumTheory Thu 11-Dec-14 14:33:35

Grown ups should be more like children in my view. Non judgemental, free thinking, creative, fun loving...

highlighta Thu 11-Dec-14 14:35:30

Last year (when she turned 35) there was big drama on as she expected her dh (df then) to take the day off work for her birthday. There was lots going on in the office at the time and he couldn't. She had a complete meltdown apparently (we heard from him) as it was a 'special' birthday and he should have spent the whole day with her....

I also do not understand why the big hype is about an adult birthday. Yes it is a special day to you, but to the rest of the world, its just another day...

OfficerKaren Thu 11-Dec-14 14:36:40

I'm obviously far more grown up than you OP and judge you for looking at statuses on Whatsimajig! wink

PrivatePike Thu 11-Dec-14 14:38:29

It's a Whatsapp status! You don't have to look at it! She's not forcing you to take part in the pre-festivities <party emoticon>

26Point2Miles Thu 11-Dec-14 14:39:07

I'm even more grown up... I can spell 'woman'!!!

a2011x Thu 11-Dec-14 14:39:10

My countdown of 177 days officially starts today....

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn Thu 11-Dec-14 14:39:40

Some people have fun, and some are just joyless fuckers.

Perhaps you simply aren't compatible.

Bulbasaur Thu 11-Dec-14 14:40:31

Me and DH takes the days off work for each other's birthdays. They're special days for us. smile

Though now that we have a kid, it'll probably change since we can't really take her off from school once she starts and sicks days to take care of her will be more unpredictable.

LadyLuck10 Thu 11-Dec-14 14:41:03

Why does it bother you so much? It's her life so she can choose what she does. It's ridiculous that it winds you up so much.

Gawjushun Thu 11-Dec-14 14:46:40

I think we all have one thing we do that's childish. I hate the twee 'sleeps' thing too, but I love sending the poo emoticon to friends, so I'm sure many people find me insufferable for that.

ChickenMe Thu 11-Dec-14 14:48:54

I think it's annoying but I'm quite restrained and cynical and I prefer people who are the same. I hate "x sleeps" and people obsessed with their birthdays too.

It's a personality thing - she's not like you so rubs you up the wrong way. I have people like that on FB and I unfollow or defriend when I start to think "twat".
