Weather bomb...

AIBU to think this is a rdiculous name, what the hell is a weather bomb. Do they mean a, you know, big storm or am I missing something?

It's a soundbite - and they've killed it already with over-use. I just get the rage now when I hear it.

Its a stupid emotive term for explosive cyclogenesis - when a low rapidly deepens at a rate of 24 millibar or more in 24 hours.

However, neither term applies to the low when it grazed the north of the uk - by then it had stopped deepening explosively and was a mature low pressure.

Well I've been around for 70 years and had never come across this term before. It's a silly word to use as it could panic people, especially in the terrorist world we live in today. Bomb indeed. How daft.

In any case, it apparently means strong winds and cold temperatures. Well, it's December.

I do understand, Winterfire. Everything is hyped up to the nines now.

It's as if they're using 'The Sun' attention-grabbing headlines to describe quite ordinary stuff.

And all this Amber Alert, Red Alert etc. for a bit of rain, wind or snow. You'd think we were being invaded by Martians or something.
