AIBU?

I'm currently on holiday in the Caribbean (first time ever) and I want to post updates etc to Facebook

But because there have been a number of break ins in my areas (and I wouldn't advertise my.house as empty anyway) I'm not able to share my excitement at being on a beach on bloody December! !

And the incongruity of Christmas songs on a steel band and carols when I am melting. .

Why are you friends with burglars?

YABU. Why not actually enjoy your holiday instead of spending it telling everyone how much you are enjoying it.

Well update us! Smile
I have very cold hands and would love to be on a beach in the sunshine!

I'd suggest a blanket text to friends along the lines of "hi guys, im really excited to be on holiday." that should do it.

If I were on holiday only my friends could see any updates I chose to share. And they don't break into people's houses.

And I don't think I'd spend my time faffing on Facebook if I went to an exotic location..

I like to update my fb because a lot of my friends I don't actually get to see physically very often

I'm only on bloody Barbados. .. OMG. .. its so hot. .. am melting in a vest...

Thanks pookamo x
never been to the Caribbean before

(Don't like to put personal stuff on fb as you never know who is looking, nothing is really private on the Internet.

I belong to the 'never put anything online that you wouldn't be happy to see on the front page of the newspaper. . )

Op yabu private settings on Facebook are just that private??

Report
Redglitter · 11/12/2014 00:33

You need to change your settings. My Fb is set so that if you're not a friend you can only see my profile and cover photos. Not one single post is visible even my friends can't see my list of friends. lock your page down and post away.

You might also want to consider removing friends you have who are burglars Wink

pookamoo · 11/12/2014 00:37

Sounds lovely, and I do agree about setting your profile to private.
Anyone who is not a friend can't see any more of my profile than my picture. Which is not usually even of me!

Oh OP, the world's tiniest violin is playing the world's saddest song for you.

Haha waffily that made me chuckle Grin

Op - if I was currently in the Caribbean the last thing on my mind would be updating my bloody Facebook, plenty of time to share and make your friends (and potential burglars) jealous when you upload your pics when you get home!

Report
SpringBreaker · 11/12/2014 00:54

I am sure you will be able to put your photos up once you get home :)

I really don't see the need to be on Facebook or even mumsnet, your somewhere you've never been, so bloody enjoy it!
Why do you feel the need to rub it in to every one at home? I certianly would be fairly annoyed if I logged on to find a haha is it cold in the uk look where I am post! And I'd actually go what are you doing on the Internet!

The world does not start and end with FB. Or MN either, or any other internet forum.
Wink

Just enjoy your holiday.

Why is lying on a beach and dicking around on the net any different to flicking through a light novel, or any of the other things one does on holiday without actually doing anything?

How will these potential burglars know where you live, when they see your private posts shared only with friends that you are on holiday?

Isn't it far more efficient for them to watch houses that seem empty than trawl the internet? There are far more people, who you know less about, reading this than seeing your Facebook.

So nothing is private on the internet, and because of that, you don't want to post to fb that you are on holiday in the Caribbean... sensible, some might say....

Yet, you posted here that you are on holiday, away from home. So if FB isn't private, then MN isn't private, so if anyone can see it on fb, anyone can see it here, and you don't want to post it on fb, because you wouldn't want to see it in a newspaper, but you posted it here...

Do you see the irony yet?

Or are you just boasting that you are in somewhere hot?

And no, I am not jealous, as I live in Australia, so am used to heat + beach + Christmas songs.

differentnameforthis - this is an anonymous forum whereas FB has your name and sometimes the area where you live on it.

Paranoid much?

Mehitabel6 · 11/12/2014 07:15

Burglars will get shocks if they assume that because you are in holiday the house is empty. I am away next week- the house is not empty.
I also have FB with the strictest controls.

Just share the photos when you get back?

What is this need for ''This is where i am RIGHT NOW THIS MINUTE'' these days? Confused Who cares? We're all busy with our own stuff.

It's not going to mean any more or less to anyone else weather you're still there or home now when you share your holiday pics/memories is it?
