DH is being MASSIVELY Unreasonable! (lighthearted)
(77 Posts)Yesterday I commented to DH that I needed to add the Radio Times to my online Christmas shop. He said we don't need a TV guide because we have a digital TV guide with Sky. My point was it wasn't Christmas without the Radio Times containing a crap crossword, 80% holiday ads and a few TV listings.
He says IABU, I say he is
(but either way I've ordered one!)
So come on MN Jury, Christmas TV guides are tradition, right?
Yep I'm with you, it's not Christmas without radio times and it better have the tv quiz picture too!
Sorry, I have to take DH's side on this one. It's impractical to need a paper guide when you have one right there on the screen.
But then, I really don't have nostalgia attached to TV guides, they were always used to perform a function.
Omg I'm picking up mine today YADNBU!
You can't circle stuff on screen, it's definitely not the same!
Its one of those things you look forward to, a cuppa and a read of whats on all over Christmas. When I was a kid I'd circle all the movies I wanted to watch I was a strange child
I always get one and no-one looks at it.
When I was young, you had to get the TV Times for ITV and Radio Times for BBC. My Grandparents still get both
Utterly essential. It's part of my pre-Christmas wind-down to sit down with a cuppa, the RT and a highlighter! I may be a loser though...
Ha operaha! That was a good crosspost.
I might pick up the TV Times AND the Radio Times and see if I can make his teeth itch hehe
we only get one at Christmas
Otherwise how do you know what will be on, whats needs to be taped (onto hard disc drive) and what clashes you have - we can tape two things at once and still have arguements about what gets taped
Its part of the christmas fun
And if you get really bored you can play name that film - one person reads out the description and the other one guesses the film
Your DH is hugely unreasonable!!
Got our copy of the Radio Times today, it's part of the festive season here.
Afraid we use the free ones in the paper. Agree though as how can you look ahead if you dont have a paper copy.
I remember the times when you had to buy both and we had four channels to choose from.
LOL Percy, I remember 2 channels (I'm not sure when BBC 2 started but we couldn't receive it where we lived)
I need one on the coffee table at Christmas!
It would be like not having a tree...
Well, I think that he would've failed Tebbit's Citizen Test. It's a tradition, innit?
I'm going to buy one now as this thread has prompted me
Highlighter pen at the ready!
Technically I remember 3 but didn't want to admit that
I remember gathering around the TV with my parents for the launch of Channel 4 and being massively disinterested in Countdown.
I'm with you, I love the Christmas Radio Times. The letters are brilliant, move over Viz Top Tips!
I remember before tvs ... am I the only oldie here?
I like to circle things too .. can't give it up now .. too old to change lol
No Butter, it has to be a leaky biro. No highlighters in 1972!!
Actually I think there may have been, just, but they weren't for the Radio Times
I know what you mean ally. I can't get on with a diary or a to do list on my phone either. I need to be able to cross things though.
I have had the same argument a few years ago
Flicked through it and probably did t use it but I felt like we needed it for christmas
And in sky you can only see a week in advance, tv times has 2 weeks??so you can plan your viewing
I only found out last Christmas that the Radio Times had TV listings in it. DP thought it was hilarious I thought it only had radio listings but we always had a TV Times growing up so how was I to know??
