On my facebook list I have an old friend who I've not really been in touch with for a few years.

I've just had the following message from her:

Hi would love to catch up with you. Maybe we can meet next time you're down in London. I've got a business proposition for you and your dp too - me and my boyfriend have started up a new company and we're looking for about £5k investment. Thought it would be right up your street. Can't wait to see you.

So after about 4 years of not contacting us she suddenly pops up and asks us for £5k!

AIBU to just ignore her and most likely unfriend her.

YANBU. How strange, and rude!

Poopooplop Sat 06-Dec-14 17:16:37

Defo! It's probably one of those pyramid scheme's. Maybe she's sent it to like 25 people. Defriending for shiz.

Vitalstatistix Sat 06-Dec-14 17:17:03

Well she's got more front than Blackpool, hasn't she?

I would just unfriend and block her.

Defriend...

squiggler Sat 06-Dec-14 17:19:39

Ignore it, sounds like a scam!

FunkyBoldRibena Sat 06-Dec-14 17:21:52

I'd be sarcastic if it were me. 'That's amazing, what a coincidence we have £5k going spare and were going to blow it on a top notch trip to Egypt to see the pyramids'.

ArchangelGallic Sat 06-Dec-14 17:38:44

I'd send a message back to advise she's probably been hacked.

Then block.

I actually think it's quite good she's been upfront. Could be worse, you could have thought "How lovely, I really could do with meeting up with an old friend" and then sat at a sales pitch.

Thank her for her honesty, say you're not interested in an investment, wish her luck then unfriend.

CornChips Sat 06-Dec-14 17:53:56

defriend.

Had similar, but it was a mother's sister estranged family member who first of all invited themselves to stay for a weekend, then looked around our house and commented that clearly we were doing 'well' for ourselves and asked us to invest in their failing vineyard in South Africa.

weeblueberry Sat 06-Dec-14 17:57:55

Definitely would suggest she's been hacked since you know shed of course never be that cheeky wink

raltheraffe Sat 06-Dec-14 18:07:46

I had a "friend" like this.

I unfriended after a few months of being hassled and politely saying no.

Talk about a brass neck! I would unfriend her.

pigsDOfly Sat 06-Dec-14 19:28:12

Perhaps it's just as well you haven't been in touch for some time.

If she can ask for £5000 from someone she never sees, imagine what she'd expect from someone she sees on a regular basis.

Sallyingforth Sat 06-Dec-14 20:06:38

She has signed up for a pyramid scheme and has contacted everyone she can remember.
Just block and forget her.

Concordial Sat 06-Dec-14 20:22:49

I'd say she's been hacked. It sounds a bit too obvious to just come out and ask for 5k after years of no contact.
Or she could just be a cheeky biatch.

Either way, defriend and block.
