Aibu to start to hate the word methinks. Used in Facebook status updates too frequently by people who can't spell it.

grin

I'm not on Facebook. So how do they spell it?

greengagemutantgingermyrtle Wed 03-Dec-14 17:27:54

How the fuck does one spell 'methinks' wrong?

Fluffyears Wed 03-Dec-14 17:35:27

'On route' gets on my wick! If you want to be fancy get it right!

TiggyD Wed 03-Dec-14 17:37:10

They're tuncs!

LumpenproletariatAndProud Wed 03-Dec-14 17:38:48

On route fucks me right off, as does 'wide birth' hmm

But since Im shit at general grammar and spelling at feel I have no right to say anything,

I will be on route and give this subject a wide birth and tow the line (to boot) <cringe>.

AlbertGiordino Wed 03-Dec-14 17:43:26

all these are top draw

Hatespiders Wed 03-Dec-14 17:49:02

I'm still mystified, OP. Come on, put me out of my misery - how do they spell it?

vulgarwretch Wed 03-Dec-14 17:54:31

I need to know too. I found this article which includes 'methinks' as one of the top 8 annoying phrases/words used on the internet. But it didn't mention how to misspell it.

sunflower49 Wed 03-Dec-14 17:55:35

Metinks? (That can be used as a play on speech, though)?
Mefinks (cringe)

Methinx ?

I'm running out of steam...

Jasharps Wed 03-Dec-14 17:56:23

YANBU methinks

Hate it.

OTheHugeManatee Wed 03-Dec-14 17:56:40

Methings?

Discopanda Wed 03-Dec-14 18:14:12

Not as bad as 'Is this aloud?' or I know someone who keeps using the phrases 'ball shit' and 'dame right'.

ArmyDad Wed 03-Dec-14 18:21:58

Pardon my ignorance but what is wrong with on route?

nocoolnamesleft Wed 03-Dec-14 18:24:35

Methinks the lady doth protest too much...

TimelyNameChangey Wed 03-Dec-14 18:29:51

OP come back at once and tell us the misspelling!

I hate people who say "Why oh why..." and go on to complain about something.

I also hate "Note to self" which people seem to use on FB as a way of being amusing when it just sounds like they're in Bridget Jones.

I hate MANY turns of phrase.

"Stumped" and "Cheesed off" are particularly ugly.

TimelyNameChangey Wed 03-Dec-14 18:30:25

army it's En Route....french.

RoseCavallari Wed 03-Dec-14 18:31:10

Pardon my ignorance but what is wrong with on route?

I think its suppose to be en route

divingoffthebalcony Wed 03-Dec-14 18:32:27

I know someone who keeps using the phrases 'ball shit' and 'dame right'.

Haha!

"I'm on tender hooks" bugs the shit out of me.

AnotherGirlsParadise Wed 03-Dec-14 18:34:15

'Free reign'. Fuck off.

Summerisle1 Wed 03-Dec-14 18:34:31

Methinks that you may have missed a comma out of that thread title, OP.

But for all that, what was the misspelling?

TimelyNameChangey Wed 03-Dec-14 18:57:18

"I brought a new top today"

angry

WHERE TO!? WHERE did you bring it you fool!

TimelyNameChangey Wed 03-Dec-14 18:58:23

Perhaps OP sees people writing "Me thinks"

Me thinks OP is a pedant....I am too.

Like that.

ArmyDad Wed 03-Dec-14 19:04:48

But doesn't "en route" mean on route?

AvonCallingBarksdale Wed 03-Dec-14 19:06:46

Yes, literally "on the route", but it's a French expression, so it's got to be en route that's the law
