YABU!

  • Mind your own business
  • He might have a busy/bad day
  • He might have SN
  • I floss in my boss's meeting, that's how important flossing is to me

And here's your free space:

  • If a woman was doing it, would you still care?

Grin

Anyone get a bingo?

It is a woman! I don't blame them for flossing just do it in the bathroom like everyone else and don't carefully place each used piece of floss on the table next to me, yeuch!

Flossing aside, has this woman committed the ultimate train faux pas and chosen to sit directly next to a stranger when other double seats are available?

(flossing in public - grim. Up there with filing your nails and blowing your nail dust over everyone!)

Foul. Shock

Flossing way worse than nail filing, it's more like squeezing spots.

A Lady on the train caught me nose picking the other day. Still, she was able to breathe more easily after it. (with apologies to @GlennyRodge for stealing his joke).

OP - YANBU. Start picking your nails, but remember to put your sock back on afterwards.

I can top that; I was once a train where a woman got out her razor and started dry shaving her armpits. Shock In her defence, it was the last train out of London on a Saturday night and her friends were certainly tipsy, so I suppose she could have been too.

Oh yeurrrrrrrrrgh! And flossing in a meeting? Really? That's too weird!

I hate people applying make up, perfume, nail varnish or tonging their hair on public transport.

Flossing would be a deal breaker for me. Pick a window, as we say oop north. Grin

Perhaps she's sitting in her reserved seat. The flossing is gross though.

YANBU, that's vile.

Someone once sat next to me, opened a can of baked beans and started to eat them cold with a spoon.

A couple once had sex in the seat across from me. She had a long skirt on, it was late at night and they were drunk enough to think they were being discreet, they weren't.

Someone was sick on my shoes.

I saw/smelled a mother changing a shitty nappy on a train table.

I watched a group of young men hovering up cocaine off a train table.

I got stuck in the middle of two brawling groups which ended up in one man being hit around the head with a fire extinguisher that another man had pulled off the train wall.

Fifteen years of commuting, mostly at odd hours of the day and night, I don't miss it.

It would have been poetic justice if it had been the same table, Tyke!! Grin

I would be pretty disgusted if someone started flossing their teeth next to me on a train - but I suspect I would be very British about it, and would fume silently (and post on MN).

SDTG No way, I would have told her to taken herself & her halitosis to the far side of the stye where the other pigs are, FGS I really REALLY cannot believe that anyone would think it passable.

That's absolutely disgusting. I once witnessed a woman on a train in Paris whip out nail clippers and start clipping her 10yo-ish child's nails. Onto the floor of the train. I was horrified!

So glad that others agree with me....unfortunately, being very British I just sat and silently fumed rather than said anything. Let's see what tomorrows journey brings...

I just wonder what kind of upbringing this person had ? No basic manners or decorum of any sort.

I've clipped a nail before on a bus, but in my defense it was badly torn and hurting like hell. I got a death stare from the only other person on the bus when he heard the clippers go click!
My train commuting was boring. There was a guy who lived with his mum and took a thermos of tea to work. He always talked loudly about his thermos, because the tea club was £1 a week. You would sit there at 7.00am waiting for the immortal words "but of course... With me thermos".

In need of a think thank of suitable remarks: other than my previous one

Tell her there is a whole thread on the internet about her repulsive lack of basic manners. She should get up 60 seconds earlier & do her ablutions in her bathroom like the rest of the entire planet.

Take a few baby wipes ask if she would like to wash her bum also in public

Take photos of her doing it & say you are posting on fb

Stand up & loudly ask the whole carriage if it is only you, or everyone else thinks this woman is repugnant:

I expect you will get others (shock)

Tell her we all think she is a minger!

Or better still, tell us what train you are on, and we will all join you next Friday, in the hopes that she will be there again, so we can all tell her what we think of her nasty behaviour!

There used to be a woman on the overground train I'd catch who would pull out a hair brush, vigorously brush her hair (over everyone) and then once finished, sit chewing and sucking the brush bristles full of hair for the remainder of the journey. Was gross and mesmerising at the same time. But mainly gross.
