AIBU?

To think the pharmacist should concentrate when dispensing my script?

Okay, went in to get a couple of scripts filled at local pharmacy earlier. Pharmacist was discussing Christmas holidays ( who was going where when) eating rum balls with assistant and then everyone went over to look at the calendar. There seemed to be some misunderstanding just revealed. This was both Pharmacists and assistant. Meanwhile.......Am I being a crotchety old woman? Script is fine, but still.

Errr... yep. Totes U! Did you get the right medicine? So what exactly is your point? Hmm NEWS FLASH: Pharmacists are human too.

No I would have found that irritating. You don't leave customers waiting while you do your own thing.

Unless you've got the shits.

Tis the season I guess. Maybe I should take a chill pill- will see if there's one in there. Or a rum ball! The script is totally correct, so no problem there. Actually, I may even be being v. mean, I've just thought. The pharmacist serving me is from Korea, and it sounded like he had just had holiday dates mixed up. Wasn't listening all that closely. If so, I totally forgive him. He no doubt wants to get home to his family far more than he cares about me waiting, which is fair enough. I'd feel the same. A bit to me- centric to click about that this morning.

I wonder if we would all be happy with our drs getting distracted mid smear test, or our cashiers at tesco chatting to her friends while scanning our shopping...

Filling a script takes 2 minutes. Checking it (as I think most places double up) takes max 2 more.

That is no time at all to spend dedicated to the job in hand.

I complained in a pharmacy once as I was left standing, unattended to, as they all chatted away, doing nothing.

It's rude to ignore customers, or delay serving them, just to chat about holiday dates!

But they are checking all day. @different nameforthis. Do you suggest they don't chat all day? Those examples above don't hold up in comparison to the inside of a pharmacy.
Ofcourse they should acknowledge your presence but. ....

YANBU. Chatting is for break time. Or chat while you're working if you're able to do so without screwing it up.

Some people have strange work ethics / customer service skills...

I've worked in a pharmacy and (sorry in advance) the advice was to leave customers waiting a little so they'd wander round and buy something!

I don't think YAB completely U, but I suppose at least they didn't cock up your script, so not too bad. I've had countless episodes of scripts that were completely and utterly wrong, with potentially dangerous consequences, without any rum balls being involved.

Dispensing medicine is a serious job. It should require concentration.

Mucking the script up would definitely be a complaint from me. I guess I was just feeling in a bad mood, work related ( a saga in itself!) and I was in a bit of a hurry so impatient. Being perfect as I am, just ask Mr Fox, I am usually a patient soul, but just didn't want to be today. As my Irish Mum would say, I was having a "who'll tread on the tail o' me coat" day!

grandmainmypocket When dispensing drugs that could have serious side effects, yes! They can chat during a break, that is what they are for, I am sure they get times when there are no customers, or when they don't have a script in their hand.

You can't afford to make mistakes with drugs, because not everyone checks them. My FIL was recently given too high a dose of his painkillers, thankfully, he is on them long term & MIL knows his dose, so noticed the issue before they left the pharmacy.

One mistake can have serious consequences.

YANBU. It's shit customer service for a start.

No wonder DH has been given the wrong medication so often.

Oh god different name is that true? I wondered why it always takes them so long when I'm the only person in there! Should I start telling them I'm not going to buy overpriced Vaseline and to just get a move on?

YANBU.

When Im waiting for a prescription to be made up, I always think it's so quiet in these places.
There's no chit chat going on, just people concentrating on their very important jobs.

YANBU. They should concentrate while actually dispensing the script. Hopefully they were though and the chitchat was before (despite how it appeared).
