There are a few things my dc want for Christmas that are sold out everywhere. So I've looked online and I've seen them all on eBay (on buy it now) for loads more than they cost in the shops

I think it's grabby, vile and morally reprehensible. Cashing in on children. wtf

Mind you I also blame the manufacturers to some extent as I suspect they deliberately don't release new stock to create hype. And also the parents that are blithely handing over their money to these cunts are dipshits as well

My cousin did this with xbox ones last year. She made a fortune and it paid for all of her Christmas.

People will say, that's market forces etc etc
But I agree with you
It's greedy and selfish

If it was something essential like food I would agree with you. But toys Hmm

Not so much "cunty" Hmm as "entrepreneurial" imo.

I'm guessing they don't do it to annoy you personally.

It's someone trying to earn a living, maybe to pay for their own children's presents?

I'm sure I could be wrong. Thinking out loud I guess?

Agree with somuch
Parents have a choice, we are not talking food or nappies!!
It's a piece of plastic shite ( probably) if you can't afford it don't buy it.

Oh what a shameHmm
It's toys not essentials.

It is a bit cunty though.

Yep, cunty, greedy and grabby imo.

But why do the manufacturers not make more? They know what is going to be popular so make more. You watch come January, it'll all be back on the shelves.

Yabu

Parents have had the same opportunity to buy this stuff as the people who buy it to put on eBay, presumably the latter have just been more organised to snap it up in time

It's non essential items and nobody is forcing anybody to buy it, more fool those who do

Some people are just really grabby and vile - it's in their nature.

I knew someone who would buy an outfit for a Christmas party, wear it the next day and then take it back to the shop for a refund a day later saying they 'didn't like it'.

This is obviously not an uncommon thing - our local Phase Eight stockist will now not give a refund unless the product is either noticeably faulty or has ALL the original tags left in.

I just can't be arsed to try and rip people off like this, and I don't know if I could live with myself either.

I know someone else who buys really massive boxes full of polystyrene cups from Costco, splits them into strips of 20 cups and then sells them on ebay for a miniscule profit. Life is just too short....

Completely and utterly 100% cunty.

Ditto with theatre/gig tickets.

Totally utterly foul grabby capitalism at its worst.

It is cunty. If they don't want them, they shouldn't buy them. A lot of people can't afford the inflated prices, so their children have to go without. It really fucks me off. Business or not, I couldn't do it.

Gawjushun · 30/11/2014 20:47

Yeah, it's cunty and money grabbing, but it's not like the shelves in stores are bare. Just get them something else.

GaryShitpeas · 30/11/2014 20:51

Nah it's definitely fucking horrible I think

There is a £30 quid doll going for £150. Pure greed.

I'm all for people being entrepreneurial and making their own money etc. I'm self employed myself. But IMO buying up loads of stock in shops purely to sell on at vastly inflated prices just isn't right

I agree, it's grabby, but they're not cashing in on the children, they're cashing in on the parents. Who feel under enormous pressure to get everything on the list in case it 'ruins' Christmas.
And in the main, most parents will pay up, unfortunately.

Oh agree mintyy re the gig tickets, that's vile as well

Its pure cuntiness.

If it weren't so shameful and scummy I would be lolling at some of the replies defending it on here. As it is I am horrified.

I agree ratrace if the parents weren't buying (I certainly won't be! ) the sellers wouldn't try and sell. so not sure who irritates me the most tbh

I suppose some people feel it's OK to do that because they own a scarce resource, and no-one is MAKING people buy them... it's a bit grotty, but that's the capitalist free market, innit....

Report
Mintyy · 30/11/2014 20:57

Yeah, and the capitalist free market is equally cunty imvho.

Years ago I happened to work near a toy shop that sold those zoom zoom hamster things when they were the it toy. The shop didn't realise how popular they were and at first didn't limit how many you could buy. I bought more than I needed and sold them on to my husband-to-be's work mates as he was living in an area that the toys were scarse. I sold them for the price I paid for them.

Actually that's a good point - I can't remember if he paid me back - off upstairs to ask him!
