......and therefore way too early to be putting up Christmas trees and decorations? My bloody facebook feed is full of the things.

What happened to 12 days before / 12 days after? Am I way out of touch?

No I think it is too early Christmas seems to being getting earlier and earlier we only used to decorate our tree when we broke up from school

I don't care particularly...just interested I guess as to whether some of the people I know are unusual in starting this early or whether lots of people do. For me it takes away some of the 'specialness' of Christmas if it starts this early, also I thought there was some sort of bad luck thing about putting trees up before 12 days.

Perhaps I should have phrased it differently and put it in Chat....

Of course it's too early but some people do silly things :)

Many people myself included prefer the pre amble up to Xmas. I'm quite happy to take down straight after NYeve.

Also this time the first is a Monday so everyone's putting up outside lights today.

I'm not sure why but I've always done our Christmas tree and decorations on December 1st. We absolutely love how the house looks so the longer they're up the better. My DH is going away tomorrow for the week hence why we've done it today.

Does that mean it's too early to start the Christmas liqueurs?

I usually wait until December 1st but i know i wont get a chance to do it after work this week. Would have ended up waiting until next Sunday so i did it today ... whilst watching A Charlie Brown Christmas. And it is the first day of advent apparently, though will admit i havent the foggiest what this actually means. Advent means little chocolates behind numbered windows to me = Christmas!

But YABU ... Just roll your eyes and scroll on if you dont like seeing them!

It's better value for money if you have the decorations up for a longer period, especially when you have a real tree (as long as it doesn't go brown).

Also, don't forget that many people who would usually wait til 1st Dec are probably putting theirs up today, or at least getting them out of the loft/garage/wherever because it's a weekend, and that's when most people have time to do it :)

It's advent Sunday, so technically the start of the official 'christmas' season.

Whilst it's a bit early for me personally I don't think it's obscene.

YANBU. But don't you know, Christmas starts two days before Halloween? Wink
In the town where I work, the Christmas decorations are put up before Armistice day and last year they stayed up until April. There is something really tasteless and wrong about the last post sounding on the 11th of the 11th of the 11th and hanging above the people standing at the war memorial are swinging reindeer and giant snowflakes in garish colours. It's like we can't stand the thought of November so it is struck from the calendar in this peculiar way. Traditionally, green stuff, including the tree is not put up until Yule which is usually 21st or 22nd of December as part of the original pagan ceremony. It does get worse every year and cheapens the whole thing no end in my view. I love Christmas but hate this aspect of it. It is led by consumerism I suppose.

YABU for not acknowledging that it's Advent Sunday today.

12 days before is ... made up.

For me, you either decorate for Advent, in which case that's today, or forChristmas, in which case keep the tinsel in the loft until 24/12. Either way you must keep it up until Epiphany (that is, 5/1).

Some people drag all their decorations down on Boxing Day but I have a special DM sadface for such behaviour.

I put my outside lights up today because DD was so excited to see them. I will hold out on the indoor decorations for a while yet because I hate cleaning around them

Mrs Hathaway is right and YABU.

First Sunday in advent is today. I would expect today to be the most common day to decorate.

I don't always manage to decorate on the Sunday but have started this afternoon.
