To start loud DIY/hoovering at 8am

Seriously, next doors lodgers have been in the hot tub all night. It's 4:30am. I've been up since 3:30 and can't get back to sleep due to the noise.

I'm tempted to start noisy housework at about 8am when they will be lying in bed trying to sleep it off. Or find some shelves that suddenly need urgent putting up.

Ok, I know it's just I'm tired and grumpy. And in all honesty, I really can't complain, due to my 9month old DS screaming, no matter what I try and do habit, he sometimes has for an hour in the wee small hours. But the loud, drunken talking and swearing, clanging bottles and sound of the hot tub are driving me mad.

Mah, I'm probably just jealous. Oh to be young and carefree with no commitments, not have to worry about getting up in the morning and look after a baby and toddler. I've got tea and a pack of the Christmas biscuits instead Wink

YANBU. If you have to live in close proximity to other people (which the vast majority of us do) then consideration and thoughtfulness goes a long way. Drunken crap at 4am - even if it's a weekend - isn't on.

I'd start your vacuuming about 2-3h after it's gone quiet, give them time to get into a deep sleep first.

Is this a regular occurrence? If not, I would be tempted to go and have a chat with them and also bring up the fact your baby is waking up and screaming. If you start banging around early in the morning, it could just set up more bad feeling and and more late night frolics.

It's not a regular occurance, maybe every couple months. Though more frequently in the summer.
And the baby screaming is unrelated. He just likes to do it randomly. He and DD rooms are at the front of the house, me and DH and the gardens are at the back. We are a terrace townhouse so whoever is next to his room sadly gets screaming baby. That's why I have no right to be annoyed!

It sounds like they're packing up to go inside now. I'd never do anything to really piss them off, it's not worth the bad feeling, but maybe if I don't try and keep the toddler quiet? She LOVES squealing Wink

Get earplugs for hot tub nights. You'll still hear the baby crying if that happens, but they will muffle the hot tub noises quite a bit.

If your child randomly screams for an hour in the early hours of the morning, then I don't really think you can complain about them having a fun night every few months. Yes it may be annoying, but I bet your child is just as annoying to them.

It seems a lot worse right now because you're tired and its annoying you.

But in the grand scheme of things, a hot tub night once every couple of months is fine, surely? Especially when you throw your noise into the equation.

Don't start with passive aggressive noise in the morning. You won't feel better for it, it won't turn time back and get you some sleep and in all honesty, if they're anything like me, it'll take something akin to a jumbo jet engine next to their ear to stir them after a late night drinking!

That's why I said I know I have no right to be annoyed Midnite. If I didn't have kids and slept in a room that shares a wall with a screaming baby, I would be seriously annoyed. I always say to my DH "what must the neighbours think" and I have said to the guy that owns the house "sorry about the screaming baby"

I'm just tired. We are irrational when tired Wink I think I managed to come across not overly serious in my op Smile

Losing- they're 20 something year old men. I think it would take an earthquake to probably wake them. I'm betting I see them walking back with a KFC or something later this afternoon Grin

It would be totally fine to ask them to keep it down. You can't help a baby crying but they can help that.

Maybe they don't realise you can hear. More likely they dont care though. Can't believe people compare swearing and bellowing outside all night to a baby sometimes crying.

Of course you can. Since kids cry and can't help it and you can help being up all night bellowing and swearing outside someone's house.

marnia- As I've said a couple times I know I can't really complain. I was tired and I'm just venting. However a crying baby for an hour is not the same as all night until 6am.

You can complain though

Plus I do everything I can to try and stop the 9 month old baby crying, usually ending up in tears myself.

I really dislike this tit-for-tat game that people play.

It's not nice when neighbours make lots of noise, so because my neighbours have kept me awake with their lotsofnoise, I'm now going to try to keep them awake with MY lotsofnoise.

And this will help how exactly?

You're tired, try to get some sleep.

Melanie I would love to get some sleep but I have a baby and a toddler. And a DH who is going to work later.

I've already said I wouldn't really do anything to annoy them on purpose. It's not worth the bad feeling between us.

Totally. I hope today is peaceful and you get a sleep tonight

You're right. It's not worth it.
Hope you can get a bit of rest today. I know you can't sleep, but treat yourself to a Brew and a sit down if you can. It's not the same as catching up on sleep, but it helps.

Relax everyone, op was quite clear she wasn't being overly serious. She's not really going to start hammering now.

I can understand op, sounds frustrating! You can't help it if your baby cries and that is different from all night rumblings from drunk 20somethings. As it's occasional, I wouldn't say anything to them but I also wouldn't try to keep my toddler's daytime squealing down, it's not your fault that theyve been up all night and need to sleep all day.

Hope you manage to get some rest at some point today.

The most annoying thing is I'm not long out my 20's myself! I'm 31 ffs. I sound like a grumpy old woman Confused

I didn't keep people awake in my 20s or as a student. Neither did DH.

Just read my post and realise thst 'drunk 20somethings' makes me sound like an old grump - and I'm the same age as you! You certainly don't sound like a grumpy old woman.

Drunk and noisy whatever age people are annoying.
